Not sure if anyone else would be interested in this, but here goes anyway...

In a couple of recent challenges, after voting has finished, I've added a comment to my own entry, mainly to answer questions or respond to comments made during the challenge. I feel this is a slightly better approach than sending a PM to the commenter during the voting.

However, I'm sure that the commenters whose comments I'm commenting on (whew, thats a mouthful) wont even read my remarks (unless maybe I get top 10 position).

So - how to let them know I've made a comment that may be relevant to them?

Easiest I can think of is to implement some sort of system where if the photographer adds a comment of their own to their entry, the people who have previously commented are notified in some way - PM, or some section in 'My Profile' or 'My Home', such as 'Photographer Replies' in the Statistics section of My Profile.

What do you think, any use?

It sounds useful to me, and some way to let the person whose photo it is know if they get any post-challenge comments would be useful too.

could just notify same as comments made when they comment on your photo, email.

I like the idea.

I used to think that was a good idea, but feel it will
a) bog down the servers.
and
b) start to annoy the recipient after a while.

Easier way is to go to your profile and click comments recived, then review all at once.

Ah, but these wont show up on your 'comments received', coz they are comments made by the photographer to his own entry.

However, having an option in My Preferences to turn something like this on or off would help with the annoyance thing.

Having a similar display to PhotoPoints would be good. You are informed that you have new comments and are linked to a page containing links to the images commented on.

I think it would also be useful to have a tree view of the portfolio images (similar to the previous challenge entry list) with number of comments shown.

Sorry, you've misunderstood...

I dont want to know when I've made comments on my own shots - I already know that :)

What I'd like is for people who have commented on my entry to be notified when I make a comment on it myself.

At the moment, they can do this by going in to each individual comment they made, and see if the photographer has commented.

However, if they get a link to 'Photographer reply' comments, would make it easy.

For example, you left a comment on one of my earlier entries, Inner Drive. Now, if I left a comment after the challenge, thanking everyone for their comments, answering questions, I'd like you to know about it. So, a notification process.

Even if it's a check box when writing the comment to state you'd like commenters to be notified.
