Looking for a laptop to take to work with me.

PC not Mac.

Price not really decided yet, so that is open for now.

I need something that has Word. Can upload photos. Can handle Vector Works.

Has WiFi, blue tooth, a huge screen, at least a gig of RAM, DVD (blue if possible), the biggest monitor I can get for the price.

Don't need, but would not mind having if the price is cheap enough, Photoshop capable, duel processor if practicle but not really needed, a really nice graphics card.

Anything else I may need please feel free to mention so.

Thanks.

Unless you find someone who is selling their own, or find one locally... the Internet is probably the best best to find one. For something that high end, I usually stay away from eBay and that ilk... you never (!) know what you are going to get although the majority of the sellers I have dealt with have been outstanding.

There are a LOT of websites out there but I have dealt with three on a regular basis. Bought everything from an inexpensive modem, to both laptop and desktop computers and have never been disappointed with what I got.

These sites are:

globalcomputer.com
tigerdirect.com
newegg.com

Global and Tiger are possibly under the same owner...they LOOK almost identical and addresses are similar enough. They are the ones I deal with the most. Newegg is my brother's (the smartest computer/network person I know) favorite, but although I have never been disappointed, I just haven't had years of dealing with them as I have the other two.

If you sign up for their newsletters, you will receive some "members only" deals that cannot be found on the website... last month or so ago they had an HP laptop with large Intel duo-core 2 processor, 15 inch screen, 2 gig Ram, 250gig HD, DVD/CD writer and more for less than $900.
I couldn't get one but a "web" friend of mine did and she is still walking 4 feet off the ground.

Look at the Refurbished/recertified systems too. Many times, the refurbished units they have are certified by the maker and carry the same warranty as a brand spanking new one at a deeply reduced price.

As you have probably heard, you need to be careful on the web if you are planning on buying anything. Check with friends or professionals to see about how reputable a site might be.

Good luck! When I bought my first laptop (Thinkpad 600) it cost me $3400 and now you can pick up a 1000 times better machine for less than a quarter of that. Have fun!!

A friend has one of these...
AlienWare
They aren't particularly cheap, but good reputation for a power house.

Fujitsu N6420

It's a ten pounder (single 200G sata drive (you can get it with 2 drives)) but it has a 17" crystalview, the size of the monitor gave em room for a numberic keypad on this one.

the $1700 model has 2G RAM, ATI Radeon X1600 w/512M ram (256 dedicated and 256 shared)...

XGA+ (1152x864) is kind of a weird resolution though. And I think it is lacking bluetooth.

i have a dell e1505 i haven't gotten around to putting on ebay because i can't find the software disks. i haven't been able to get it online, i think its because of a virus, but i wasn't able to figure it out. i gave up and got a mac. it has an intel core 2 processor (1.83 Ghz), and 2gb of ram. i'll let it go for $600 if you want we can try to work it out, and i would definetly be willing to refund if you cant get internet running.

What is a 'huge' screen? I'd say take a look at the Dell XPS line, they're pretty sexy machines :)

MacBook Pro

It'll run Windows better than a Dell.

Personally, I'd avoid anything with Vista on it. It's the next Win ME funparty from MS.
