Ok, I did it, dropped my brand new Canon HV20 HD video camera. It does not bounce very well. Broke no power. So how about it SLC friends. Where's the best place to have it repaired or to have an estimate of repair / replacement. I think the best is replace it and hope Mastercard will cover it under their damage protection program. Since it was less than 90 days old it should be covered but it take MC 6 to 8 weeks to decide, can't wait. It would be nice to have an on-site video camera repair facility and a place to just buy a new one when they say it's not repairable. Any help?

Don,

Sorry to hear about that, that really, really, really sucks.

I've had my 70-210 repaired here:

Forster's Camera Service Inc
(801) 487-1288
40 W 2950 South Salt Lake City

Did great work, they warranty it for 90 days (if I remember correctly) as well.

I've also had work done here:

Spencer's Camera
(801) 367-7569
696 No. Grove Drive
Alpine, UT

Private guy, cheap labor and fast.

Hope that helps Don, I'm guessing that you are in town, how long are you staying?

I searched high and low (on the internet) and can't find the company I've done business with before ... maybe they are out of business or maybe they just aren't listed on the internet. Anyway, sorry to hear about the loss. Do let us know if you're going to stay in town for long.

We should be around for a couple weeks. We are in Orem at my parents, will spend some time in Sanpete County on our property and will be staying at the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird for a week starting the 13th July. We then have a family reunion in Monticello. Three of our married kids live in SLC so it's fun to get back.

I checked the internet on sales and repair shpos and I couldn't see one that had in-house repair so thanks for the shops. I'm not sure if I trust a fix after that bounce but I need to at least check it out and see if everything is still in place and calibrated.

For those in the Utah area or even for mail-order camera repair Spencers Camera Repair was great. Much less expensive and he fixed the video camera the same day. Highly recommended.
