How do you want to tell stories using images? Where do you want to do it?
Weâre working to redefine visual storytelling here in our small-newspaper environment. Our shooters produce weekly photo columns, have experimented with soundslides and are deep into video for our website. Weâre too small and flexible NOT to experiment as new ideas come down the pike.
If youâre looking for someplace thatâs infinitely livable, reasonably affordable, technologically current and well on the road to a digital transformation, consider The News Leader in Staunton, Va.
As an applicant from a larger newspaper recently told us, we act like a paper three times our size, with design sophistication, thoughtful planning and deep local-local coverage. Our Web site is going great guns, with 1.8 million page views a month. Weâre unveiling new initiatives every month, finding new ways to connect with readers. As a Gannett newspaper, weâre deep into our Information Center conversion.
What does that mean? It means weâre what weâve always been: Local-local. Only more so. It means we want to fulfill readersâ every local information need.
If youâre a photographer looking to move into a fast and flexible daily newspaper and Web site environment, look at us. If youâre all about great images and daily portrayal of community, weâre right for you. If you want to learn about online media first hand, weâre small enough that you can follow your curiosity without running into departmental walls and bureaucratic barriers. If you bring fresh perspectives and diversity, we value you.
As for amenities. Historic downtown. Victorian homes. Friendly people. Coffee houses. Mountains. Lakes. Streams. Trails and trout. The white blaze of the AT. Highways to Charlottesville, D.C. and points beyond.
But enough about us. What about you? Tell us what youâre looking for. Tell us about your skills and your successes. Tell us why youâre a good fit for us, and we for you.
Tell Executive Editor Dave Fritz, in an e-mail to photojob@newsleader.com. Include 10-12 examples of what you do best.
Or, send off that dead-tree and CD packet to PO Box 59, 11 N. Central Avenue, Staunton, VA 24402.
