So has anyone ever replied to one of the thousands of scammer emails asking you to be the go-between and take 30% of several million dollars ;-)

Of course not, you are all sensible arn't you - hheheh (evil laugh)

So I thought I'd reply, from a hotmail account of course, and guess what I have a scammer hooked. Now here's where we can have some fun and keep the guy tied up for a while ;-)

Here's the game play so far:

Act 1: the scammers hook - the guy claims to be a Barister from a well known UK law firm and claims to be the advocate for a client who is now dead. He has an estate of 7.5 million sterling and is offering 30% to me to impersonate the next of kin.

Act 2: the counter cast - I responded telling the guy I was in need of a cash injection for a business venture and that I had fallen on hard times. I asked for proof of identity before I provide my details.

Act 3: bait taken - Our target has now sent me a scanned jpg of a British passport and has asked again for my details (oh no, not yet - he needs to work harder than that)

Act 4: throw in a small spanner - I replied that I had checked with his law firm (i didn't but he is not to know) who could not confirm that he worked for them and asked him to provide further evidence of his identity. Also assuring him that I was very keen that we should be sure of each other before we move to the business in hand. He has many more hurdles to jump before this game is over ;-)

I'm open to suggestions about what I ask him to do next, I think we have at least one more knock back on his identity before we progress the story. Suggestions most welcome, but they can't kill the play ;-)

I've already started a theme where I get the word 'Scallywag' into every email I send him ;-)

Sweet! I am no "Scallywag" :-P but I love this idea!

I hope he doesn't have your real name, does he?

I read one once where the person told him his name was James Kirk. He took it all the way, to the point they were supposed to meet. I'll see if I an find the link.

However, I do believe I read somewhere that you can get yourself in trouble doing this. I'll have to look for that one too.

I think I've usually seen it spelled "scalliwag" -- but maybe that's another of those UK-isms ...

The passport photo is certainly fake - passport photos must be head and shoulders only.

This is one of the best threads ever. If we all did stuff like this, we might actually cut down on the scams.

I read through it all as well. I think I was rolling on the floor by the time it was done. I loved the pictures that went with it. If you haven't read this... READ IT!

Did you notice the photograph of the Hair Cut / Internet Cafe had the phone number on the sign. Look close.

tattoo is great idea!
you should also asked if he is married, and if he is ask to pictures of his wife, and not a passport or something but like snapshots of her at thanksgiving (since I do not believe that the brits celebrate thanksgiving), then ask him why she is at a thanksgiving feast.

you should also ask him to make a myspace with that fake id.

I saw a tv show do something like this, but they asked for his thumbprint and then turned it over to the police at the end of the show.
now that was funny
