This is driving me crazy!!
I have a photo that I worked on a while back, and now cannot remember the sequence I used, but I am trying to convert it to jpeg (from either psd or tiff) and it WILL NOT save the color information!
I have the file as both a psd, and a tiff, it's a grayscale with one selected area that is color;
the psd says (Background, Quick Mask)
the tiff says (Quick Mask);
whenever I try to save as a jpeg, the color turns to grayscale.
I searched the forums, but found nothing that worked with this situation. Desperately need help! I will not be able to sleep tonight if I can't figure this out!
Thanks in advance to you PS gurus!

I was in Quick Mask mode, but switched to Standard Mode, then went to Select-Save Selection, but it didn't work.

convert it back to RGB, then it'll save as you see it.

edit: that is: image-->mode-->RGB color.

With the psd file, I tried Flatten Layers, didn't work. But I just noticed that when I switched to Standard mode, the color goes away.

this is a guess: in photoshop, while the photo still has color and all filters selected select all and copy, then paste it to paint....see if that works....let me know! |

JPEG does not support the alpha channel which exists with QuickMask or a saved selection.
The easiest way to deal with this is, when your .psd looks the way you want, to SaveAsCopy -- this will usually allow you to pick any format compatible with the color-space you are using. |

On both the tiff and the psd, it copies only the "color layer", and when pasted into paint, it is grayscale. (And in both files, Flatten Layers is not available as an option.)

Save for Web?
Is the current image on a cd? Was the image first work on a Mac or Pc and now you're using the other system to convert?

How large is the image? If you can see all of it at 100%, you could simply screen print it (copy to clipboard) and save the new image you create from that as a jpeg. Doesn't really solve the original problem, but is a workaround to get you the jpeg.

@faidoi: Grayscale in save for web; I'm trying to find the original image that I have on CD; all work done on PC/currently working on PC; both images 8bits.
@richterrell: only one layer copies to clipboard - the "color" layer, and it copies in grayscale.
Thanks, everyone, for your questions/help/suggestions. My head is starting to hurt from this, so I'm hanging it up for tonight, and going to bed, and will tackle this again in the morning. Hoping I can find the original on CD, and start all over!
Thanks again!
