Well my Rebel XT is dieing now it is continuously locking up or giving me a 999 error I have to continuously take the battery out and put it back in. Yes this is getting frustrating I have cleaned the connections to the lens and camera itself also tried different memory cards and batteries. So what to do? What is the process of sending it into Canon? I think I have just about 45-50000 photos taken on it so far.

I never dealt with Canons service any suggestions before I send it to them or how to send it to them. And no I have no warranty on it

Thanks

Call them up and talk to them. They'll be able to give you the best advice possible. I've never had to deal with them either...thankfully. 45000-50000? Sounds like a new shutter is in order.

thank you I just spoke with a guy and he gave me a canon repair place that is actually close to me that I can send it to and then they will give me an estimate.

Time to switch back to Nikon. :)

Your XT is already over it's average, estimated shutter life expectancy with 50,000 shots. Just something else to consider before repairing it.

I'm not a good influence. My rebel xt gave me the error 99, and nothing would fix it....taking the battery out...nothing. So instead of sending it to Canon and having to wait around to get it fixed, I just threw down the plastic and got an XTi. HA. Talk about the need for instant gratification.

But, I have to say, I did CALL into canon to ask about getting it fixed, and they were very pleasant. ;)

Good luck and I hope it gets fixed soon. (or maybe you are an impulsive buyer like me!)

Thanks guy/girls well I may send it off to them I dont mind waiting since I have my XTi and I will see what they tell me and how much it will cost. Again I never dealt with their repair service so I dont know how good they are or if I am going to have problems with them.
