If I do not (can not) find Waldo I do not vote; I think it is only fair. |

Im suprised how many of the ones are in your face obvious and comrpise u to 30% of the photo area.
Myne can be found as long as you dont glance but isnt as hard as others. Im happy with my score but could have done better if it wasnt candid instead of staged. |

Why not vote? The description does not say you must see Waldo does it?
I guess not voting is the best thing to do but I wonder how many people will vote "low" if they can't find Waldo.

I have been through quite a number of these thus far and for some of them, even though I have stared and searched, I cannot find a person in the photo! *smile* I may need better glasses, but the rules say, "hide" not make it totally obscure! ;)
Actually, I am finding some of the more "blatant" ones much more pleasing than some of the really well hidden ones. Personally, I will not vote high on a simply "nice scene". I have to actually be able to FIND WALDO in order for me to vote a higher score. Those who have them more blatantly visible are getting as high a score from me as those who are hiding them tremendously well!
That's just my scoring in this challenge. :)

I vote on how well he is hidden, after all, that is the challenge. There are some that are 'not' hidden, but a good shots, so I have voted them around 6. There are some that have wonderful scenery, but I can't find him, so they get 6 or 7 or 8.
But the biggest problem with this and other Waldo challenges is voters expect to find him/her straight away, that is not the way. You have to stop and look, it takes longer, but eventually you will find him. There were only a couple I didn't find, but I am sure I will kick myself after the challenge finishes and I see where they were.
Don't vote down or not vote cos you can't find him, admit you have been beaten and award the photog for fooling you:) |

I agree with this premise, however, I wonder how many entries really have no person in them at all.
Call me a skeptic, but the description has been ignored before. Since there's no DQ for not meeting the challenge, there's no consequence.

My son once had a "Where's Waldo" toy. It was one of those cheap plastic wands that was comprised of a clear plastic tube filled with (probably) mineral oil and a bunch of little stars and other confetti. There was also a nearly microscopic little Waldo in there. But it took our whole family nearly a month to find it.
Frankly, if I can't find Waldo in a pic before the week is out, I'm going to add a point to whatever score I would otherwise give. I see no reason to short change the photo just because I got out-smarted.
IMHO, if there truly is no Waldo at all in a shot, shame on the photographer; and I'll leave it up to SC to sic 'em.... |

Find out after the challenge ends, PM the photog and ask where Waldo is/was? |

I didn't interpret the challenge to mean that I should make it difficult to find the person. In fact, in mine, it's pretty straightforward. From comments received and a 5.3x score, I think I'm getting bashed for NOT making it hard. |

I made it fairly hard. I tested it on some people and half of them just did not think he was there at all. But when seen, it is there, clear as day. My score has been swinging between 6 - 6.5 in an unbelievable way. I think some people do not find it and vote low, while the others vote in good grades when succesful in locating the person. |

yea I saw at least 3 like this, even one that I think totally went from personal knowledge and not the challenge details...to their defense though, the details are kind of off from what a REAL Where's Waldo would be. I think this challenge is going to set a new record for after-challenge threads about why my image didn't do well. Glad I didn't get in on it. |

Why do people feel compelled to announce how they will vote? Just vote. ...or don't. :/ |

mmm, difficult.
For me intention is important in this challenge. Sometimes I think people submit wonderful sceneries just to get a sympathetic vote for a great image that doesn't really fits the challenge.
So for this challenge I will deduct some points if I can't tell if waldo is a tiny shepherd in a great landscape or just a dust speck.
That is my humble opinion and of course I could be wrong but I cannot ask the photog while I am voting, so if I can't tell if waldo exists there or is jut a speck or a hot pixel then is going down. Don't worry not really down but maybe a 6 if the image is nice ;)
ETA: or a burned down shadow for that matter.

If I find Waldo in less than 2 seconds, he's an imposter and gets a 4 or less. If I can't find him or takes longer, it is the real Waldo and gets a 5 or greater. :) |

mine's pretty clear I thought... one person commmented that they couldn't find the person... and someone on my team couldn't at first either but realized he was looking in the wrong place.
Mine's pretty obvious once you see it. Frustrating to think that I might be getting voted down because people aren't taking the time to find the person. |

I think it's to make the statement that you don't always know or take the time to look so you should give the benefit of the doubt or not vote at all.
Don't think there is anything wrong with that. |

Personally, I think it's silly how many people want to treat the photos like a game. (I'm not referring to you Monica) It's a photo site. I think it should be about the composition and look. You can tell where my waldo is, but that's seems to be a problem with many of the voters.

will I get high votes or low ? |

For me it is not important if Waldo is well hidden or not but I prefer is not that obvious. It is more importantant if Waldo is actually part of the composition and not a mere mistake... |
