I've read all the past posts on this subject, and everything I have tried upto now unfortunately will not work :( I can only apologise for yet again bringing this topic up, but with this being my first challenge submission I'm completely lost. Heres what I'm doing

Using Photoshop 6 I...

Open image in Photoshop

Image-> Image resize

Resize Pixel dimension width to 640, height automatically changes to 1087. Constrain proportion option is ticked, so is resample image biocubic.

I then select OK

I go into File -> Save for Web

I choose the optimized image, select JPEG from the settings, then Maximum, I then lower quality til it is just under 140K.

I then select save, and then rename file. The file size seems to be ok when checked in explorer, but for some reason DPC will not accept it.

I have a feeling it has something to do with the height setting in the resize pixel dimension option, but no matter what I try to do it will not allow me to lower it. I would be deeply appreciative of any help or advice you can kindly give me.

Try using the resize wizard instead uner the Help. Use 640 for the larger height or width. E.g. if the width is larger change that to 640 and the height will change acordingly.

Than save it as a JPEG & adjust the quality to fit within the 150K.

The largest dimension must be 640 pixels or less. The smallest dimension must be at least 160 pixels.

do you need it to be exactly 640? if not just reduce the size accordingly to be DPC acceptable.

Thanks ever so much for the advice. I think I may (Hopefully) have it sorted. I just de-selected Constrain proportion and manually had a jiggle around with the width and height. It doesn't look too bad, I'm quite happy to stick with it.

Thanks again

I think if you do that you are distorting the image. Just leave "constrained" selected and enter 640 into the larger dimension ...
