I work with Marines here at Quantico and as a fund raiser for our ball I started taking military portraits at the end of the month with all proceeds going to the ball fund. I will be taking them again next week and I was hoping some of you might be willing to look over the ones I did last month and give me your opinions on them or suggestions on what I can do to make them better. I am trying to keep them simple and the pose pretty basic so I don't have to worry about changing my lighting.
Any help would be appreciated.

I like the pose of GySgt Swan best. The ones with the cover under their arm makes the cover sort of blown out imo and holding the gloves in the hand doesn't seem to add anything for me. But the one with the cover right side up is very classic and looks good. |

He's leaning forward a bit and his shoulders aren't as squared as the 4th one. I agree, I like the 2nd one best too.
eta: its a tighter crop as well

These are excellent in my opinion. I rarely notice things like blown highlights (unless they detract significantly from the overall picture, and they don't for me here). What I DO notice is a very strong sense of pride, and a wonderful timelessness. These are today's Marines, but they could be yesterday's Marines as well. Wonderful job posing these gentlemen. And a GREAT idea, too, I might add. Keep up the good work! |

Thanks for all the comments... my favorites are Gunny Swan and Captain Aguilar. Next week I'll try more with the cover in hand and see how that turns out. I really want to get a Woman Marine to get a portrait. I think one in this style would be a pretty powerful image. |

I like them all! Very nice work. But call me new-fashioned, but I prefer color for this type of portrait. The uniforms and medals are very vibrant with color. My 2 cents anyways. A great thing you're doing though, Todd! |

Thanks again...
I would do them in color, but the backdrop I use for this picture is bright blue! I have others, but I like the old masters feel to the one I use. Unfortunatley, it doesn't really mesh well with the uniform. |
