Do you use them all the time and is it important to go out and buy one if your new lens does not come with one.

Figured I would ask cause they seem to want alot for that little piece of plastic.

They want a lot more for a new lens so yes I use them all the time. I suggest you buy one too. What lens didn't come with one?

There are some off-brand lens hoods made to fit most lenses. They work just as well and cost less.... Do some googling or check your local camera store.

I got a got a canon 10-22mm for a dpcer here and I know originally canon did include and still does not include the hood with this lens. I have a 19-35mm tamron lens now that hood fits it but not exactly, some parts are on tight others are not.

I figured that also I checked B&H's website and came up only with canon's hood.. hmmm I will keep looking

Yeah, just buy the hood it'll give you some peace of mind later on. Also the hood for the 19mm lens won't work well because the 10mm lens will "see" it on the wide end. They are designed for the focal length of the lens you're using.

You can always make your own hood.
