Sweeeet, I have just made my first sale today! This is the picture-

Image

Unfortunatley, my monitor sucks, so when i printed it off i noticed lots of mistakes i should have fixed. Luckily, the customer was rather dense, so he was happy to buy it and thought he was getting a bargain at 150 dollars for an 11x14 print with a frame.

Does that mean I'm now a professional photographer? :P:P

When I sell my first picture for $50.00, I will consider myself a professional ... at $150.00 it is a sure thing that most people on the planet will consider you professional. The word "professional" does not necessarily mean that you do it exclusively for a living ... it just means that you sell your work for more than break even and make a profit for your work. A famous professional photographer you are not yet ... but I would say you could at least call yourself a professional part-time photographer ... but you need not add the "part-time" in there.

Congratulations ...

COngratulations. I am putting together some "local color" shots I hope to get into some of the tourist shops in my area. Several carry local artists- watercolor mostly- but not much photography. Hope this leads to more for you!

you might not want to call your customer dense. I know it feels like when you are here you have a great hiding spot to say whatever you want, but the truth is any post in these forums are just a goole search away from anyone with the right keywords.

I know people who have galleries, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to convince them to set up a display...

Just an update on my first day out- sold six prints outright to a couple of places that liked them and wanted to try just a few and talked to a couple more that want to see some more of particular locations which are at the printers (MPix) right now. They might have liked the ones the other places took so I could not show them. Summer is a critical time since the most likely customers will be tourists and the stores do perhaps 70% of their business or more in three months.

I am asking $15 for 8x10s to the shops who will most likely try to get $30 for them. Cost including print and mat and plastic sleeve is around seven dollars each. I have a friend who has a shop as well and he agreed to take the rest I had yesterday on a consignment basis (I would only do that with him- get money from the rest).
