Has brought out the best in people, I haven't been here for long and I have spent some time away from this site trying to improve basic skills, and at the same time try and let my creativity reign free.
But this new challenge has really surprised me, I have never seen so many vibrant colours and such artistic creativity on such a wide scale here before.
It's refreshing.
:)

are you actually serious? i was actually going to vote and comment on all of the entries but as i was going through them i remembered why i stopped doing that. Now i remember why people used to give out the comment "what were you thinking?" with all of the high tech cameras on this site and macro lenses people have, I expected more. I gave out one 10 and two nines and i usually vote higher than the average person.
some of them were creative but at the same time they were totally out of focus.

Well My camera might not take the best pictures I must say that it does take some awesome macros. So that's why I entered that challenge. Oh well. I started out good with a high six but this morning I am down to a 5.4 or somewhere around there. Oh well like I said in another thread, this DPL is really F-ed up.

So in your definition of a good macro, everything in the frame would be in focus?

Surely that would be only because of lack of confidence in your own abilities. Your Sony camera will, in capable hands, produce macro images that can astound. For example;
Glynn m
Take a look at this individuals images. He uses the same camera as you. Unbelieveable macros.

Getting a real full frame macro shot, without cropping in mind. The DOF get's very thin. And lighting with macros can be tricky too if you don't have the proper equipment. So sometimes people are forced to shoot with a shallow DOF, which actually works really nicely for many of them considering we should be puzzled. I think at least 90% have good enough focus for a macro, considering. I would not call them OOF.

I have voted and commented on 1/2 so far. My first attempt at commenting in all of them. I have found the majority are good. Some are just too soft and others aren't very interesting so dont have the WOW factor. I also have an entry and I only use a screw on Macro filter. This limits the 'macroness' of my photos but always have heaps of fun trying to get a shot. I have so far enjoyed voting and commenting in this challenge. For me, if every photo was a 10 it would be a pretty boring site. |

i dont have lack of confidence. i just dont want to waste my time taking 500 macro shots to get one good one. I have done them and have entered them, take a look at my own.

this challenge is a delight to vote on, for me. i only wish that some people had restrained themselves from giving actual hints in their titles. |

It doesn't. I know him on the site. You can also use Opanda to look at the EXIF on many of his photos. He doesn't always shoot that camera.

So is Opanda the addon for Firefox? |

Funny the difference in people's perception. I checked out the challenge yesterday and thought it was pretty boring. I guess I better give it a 2nd look.
Go over to "negative space." Despite the typical guy in the corner shots, I was impressed with how many I gave a 7 or above!!!

I agree with the OP, this challenge really is filled with some beautiful colours :)
On another note, are we going to give an award to the person who stumps the most voters?? :)
I have 15 guesses and not one of them is right :) |

I agree -- some are so obvious it's embarrasing. :-}

Some of the macros are really obvious and not puzzling. They are still really great photos so I vote accordingly. It is just that they would have received a higher vote if it had been puzzling.
I have voted and commented on all and I know there are quite a few who have been doing the same. I've had 10 comments and guesses and only two are correct. I'm having a ball. |

Some entries might have deliberately misleading titles. |
