I want to purchase a flash for my camera, but I am finding it is not very easy to find a flash unit that will connect to the camera which has a 5 pin connector. If you own an Olympus Camedia camera ( mine is the 4000C) what flash unit did you purchase and are you having success with it?

too poor to get one just yet but the olympus website to should give you some good ideas on what works best with your camera. Then you could go elsewhere to buy (probably cheaper that way) or at least get the proper info so you know what to look for that will be the best for your cam. Good luck!

I did check the Olympus website, and I see that I need to purchase an Olympus flash...the bracket that matches the flash, and the special connector between the camera and bracket. I checked many photo retail sites...even looked on ebay...and, the total cost of all the above is well over $200! I really didn't want to put that much money into a flash at this moment. I am going on a vacation at the end of Jan. to Florida, and I'm paying for my son to join me....oh well! Now I am looking at a Vivitar slave type flash that fires when the flash on the camera flashes...it comes with a bracket, and has the ability to learn the flashing pattern of any digital camera without a hotshoe or pc cord connector. I found it on the internet for $68.00 plus shipping. I'm sure it will suit my needs for better light indoors...fill-in work, and can act as a slave away from the camera too.

I know there are more knowledgable olympus users on this site that may be able to better help you. If you do a quick search of your camera you can find those who use it & maybe PM them to ask what they have.

I've been looking into the same thing - had a couple old flashes for 35mm - found out quickly that while I do have a hotshoe, these won't work. I also cannot afford the olympus prices so may consider trying a slave type. There are several on eBay for around $35 that are supposed to fit my camera (including brackets) but I'm a little hesitant to buy it and find out it won't do what I want it to do.

Here is the slave type flash I am looking at....it has many nice features, and it looks like an answer to what I want at a much lower price: //www.vivitar.com/Products/Flashes/flash.html#DF200

I use the FL-40 with my C750UZ but I think that that model is discontinued already. You can try the newer FL-50 which is more powerful but also more expensive.

Another popular alternative from the people at DPReview's Oly forums is the Promaster 5750DX... you need an adapter for the Oly hot shoe but that's the advantage of the Promaster - if you ever change cameras you just need to purchase another adapter. However I think Promaster is not available outside the USA.

What about auto thrystor flashes instead? Sunpak 383 is also one very popular model.

EDIT: oops I forgot to mention, the FL-40, FL-50 and Promaster (with adapter) are TTL flashes for Olympus shoe mounts.
