Same thing, no?

When we got ours the larger screw adapter was screwed on top of the smaller screw. I unscrewed it to reveal the smaller one underneath.

Nope... it's not screwed onto the original. I wrote the company a note, and they responded quickly, saying it should have been attached via a string to the packaging... but there was no such thing. Bah.

I know it sucks for the moment but did they offer to send you a replacement? I hope so!

Head on out to Cape Cod; fly into Providence (preferred) or Boston, and take a shuttle to the Cape where I will pick you up. Bring an appetite and a camera.

And thus are bad product and company reputations established on the basis of zero evidence. It's very stable if used properly.

At any rate, Alan, I also didn't get the adapter, so I'm glad to hear of your experience. I just called them, and the guy who answered is putting one in the mail to me. He said they've gotten several similar complaints, so he knows about the problem with the packaging.

They were terrific when the first one I bought had a problem - sent me a second one without even asking for the first one back. They get an A+ from me on customer service.

Going back to mmckenna's question about shooting in Metro: I've never been approached by transit police, but I have had station managers ask me what I was photographing. Also, while shooting out the back of a moving train above ground, someone from Metro asked me why I was photographing the tracks. I responded in a very relaxed manner that I was an amateur photographer. He explained that they get nervous about people taking infrastructure shots, and I said I understood and thanked him for asking in the first place.

The story you linked to is sadly plausible. I'm glad the photographer cooperated with the police, and I'm sad they were so clueless.

Just as a follow-up... I got my adapter in the mail the other day. Actually, they sent two along, which was nice of them.

I went out and bought a small ball head (Manfrotto 482), and it works wonderfully!
