Leroy -- I'm moderating this thread. You are keeping this thread going in this direction.

hon, it hasn't even been quite unlike you to argue personally with others in this thread , much less in the forums.

In other words, from a 'crappy' picture (maybe not in terms of framing), 'astonished' results (which I will describe as 'artificial') can be obtained just by intense post-processing.

If that is the case, than that crappy picture was not so crappy after all. I must say that the photos that looked the most crappy to me came out best after processing and are my favourites. They became what I originally wanted them to be.
It is the same with everything really, a beatiful girl on the street is usually a crap model and when you have someone you'd walk by without looking is usually the best material to work with. After make-up she has become someone else and after different make-up again someone else, the other girl is still the same and always the same. Maybe we shouldn't use make-up, they will both always be the same. :)

this thread might make for some people to have a meaningful dialoge if all the crap off-topic post were removed, including this one...

First, before I jump into the fray... I do like the new avatar fotoman. It still follows in the "Is he nuts?" classification, but at least I don't question your proclivity anymore. Way to go!!!

As for this thread... Digital ...ugh! For those of us who have been around for a long time (1/2 century or more) we have all gone thru these same (although a tad different) discussions... music (can rock n roll be considered music?) Is the 8track tape the music system of the future? Is the AMC Pacer the way to go? Long hair...short hair...NO hair? Straight leg jeans... bell-bottoms...straight leg...flares? It is all the same!

Yes... it does seem unfair that people well versed in the post processing programs like PS should be able to make the seemingly downtrodden picture into a ribbon winning photograph, but...and this is because I can almost resize a photo with PS... I would, and WILL, do the same thing when I learn more.

Different strokes people!!! When I was processing 100-150 rolls of film a day only to end up with 5 or six (or less) good shots to use, I would stay in the darkroom for hours trying to come up with a "good enough" shot to at least help to consider that the day of shooting wasn't a complete waste.

Although digital photography is a totally different way of doing things than with film, it really isn't. We take a picture, we make it into a better picture, and that has ALWAyS been the way it has been, and to tell you the truth... I don't see it ever really changing either.
