Please feel free to comment/critique my first attempt at HDR. I have been reading up on a few tutorials and thought it time to attempt one. Not the ideal setup, I used an old image that is one of my favourites, but not the best lighting.

It was JPG and I converted it to 16bit TIFF at 3 different exposure levels, (not ideal for good HDR so I have read) using -2, 0, and +2. I know that most tutorials say to use 3 differently exposed images rather than changing 1 image but I wanted to try this out until I can get an opportunity to get out and get some raw shots at different exposures.

I would be interested for members to critique the final image, but please bear in mind that it was an 8bit JPG to start with. After HDR I used Noiseware and adjusted curves.

Quite a difference. I'd say it came out pretty well while maintaining natural look.

That turned out pretty darn good for coming from one 8bit jpeg. You are right that it would look a LOT better coming from 3 or more seperate exposures whether they be jpegs or raw files. I do, however, think you lost some detail in the water and in the clouds when you did the conversion and the little break in the clouds by the light pole is somewhat distracting but easy enough to clone out quickly.

Edit to add: The fact that this is your first attempt makes it even more impressive. My first attempt was a total disaster. I don't share that photo with very many people...

My opinion only, but the HDR image is too yellow for my likes.
