It became painfully obvious last night how bad quote pyramids of nested quotes can get.

I suggest the quote button only quote the top level, stripping anything within quotes tags.

totally disagree. yes, sometimes it gets out of hand, but not often enough to remove the functionality, which, more often than not, can be very useful.

in other words, it ain't broke enough to need fixin ;-)

Sometimes more than one level is necessary for context. I don't know if it's possible, but a drop-down with a list of levels to quote might help. For now, I just edit them myself.

And it is easy enough to go into the pyramid and delete everything but the quotes you want.

I do agree with Skip & Paul. As a matter of fact, I think that the DPC quote functionality is superior to anything I've seen elsewhere. It's simple, intuitive, and powerful.
I do see some cases where it gets out of hand, but I see that elsewhere too, where folks quote a whole message, including gargantuan embedded photos, when responding, even when quoting was unnecessary, or a clipped quote of the text would have sufficed. I think it's simply a matter of "netiquette."

If you scroll back and forth, you feel like you're relaxing on the ocean... it's actually very peaceful!!!
