maybe voters need to relax and stop complaining about every single challnege, looking for reasons to NOT like a photo and reasons to DNMC. so if 75% of the entries used pure how can that be wrong?

did you read what I wrote?
I stated a fact and didn't say it was wrong or right. and as much as I remember I never voted according to DNMC but on the merit of the pic and the way I liked it.
maybe members need to relax and stop for a moment to think before they complain and write a smart answer

Whether Pure is in the title is irrelevant (for me anyway). For the most part I ignore titles. For this challenge (mainly due to the way the description was worded) is more about presenting an image that shows purity as you (the photographer) sees it. If you get the viewer to see the same thing through your image then you've succeeded.

For this one, I'd say (my opinion only) all images meet the challenge. Now, the challenge is, how well is the message of purity communicated to the viewer?

I think this is the reason some may have misinterpreted your statement. Sounds like you are unhappy with photos being 'shoehorned' into the challenge, whether that was what you meant or not. Gotta love the written word.

I looked for pure as an adjective like given in the examples (ie: pure beauty, pure joy, etc)

If all we did was look for something pure we'd have nothing but babies and nuns. ROFLMAO

Oh, and I'm in the mid 5's, as usual.

I'm happy with it. I was hoping for better but it's boosting my average so I can't complain.

Without a title, would any picture convey purity? A picture is worth a thousand words and just one of those words is "pure". I'm sure a wide variety of subjects could include that word, along with 999 other words.

Looks like I have a shot at top 20 maybe. Yay!

Hold on guys where does it say that this challenge is specifically about purity? It's about a phrase...with the word Pure & the photographers chosen descriptor.

From the challenge description...

Pure Luck, Pure Energy, Pure Joy... you get the picture.

This is, without ego, a very good picture, and the score is highly disappointing.

Oh well, I have bigger fish to fry.

Nice score for your first challenge :)

As always my score will go up after 100 votes when things settle. Its looking good to improve my average and just went up 1 tenth in 2 votes :)

The challenge is not "Purity", it is "Pure...", the ... means it has to be pure something or other (leaving it wide open);)

If the challenge was Purity, then it would be a whole other thing for me.

edit: but maybe im just weird :P

Well, I consider my shot a success, just had the word 'vomitting' in a comment - its always good to provoke an extreme feeling :) (oh, and it was said in a good way backed up with a good vote).

(I don't think the above will 'out' me but will remove it if peeps can find my shot).
06/14/2007 04:29:10 PM · #97
not so weird. I agree with you and pekesty. The title of the challenge leads you to believe "pure" should be in the title. And, I don't think I've come across one yet that doesn't meet the challenge. of course, only 88% done...
06/14/2007 04:36:15 PM · #98
I think the only way to really DNMC in this challenge is if your title contradicts your photo. Like, if you titled it Pure White and the photo is all balck.

Each vote either pull it down into the low 6.5s or push it up into the mid/high 6.6s. Probably a love it hate it thing with a sprinkling of DNMC although I think it meets the challenge in a very straight forward manner.
