So, I know DPC to have some savvy tech users. Folks seem to be up on technology and all. I was wondering what people think is the best portable media player and why. Do you have one? How do you like it?
Thanks in advance!

I have a Zune and i love it. I had a creative labs zen jukebox and it was ok but nowhere near as good. my wife has an ipod nano and likes it but it just doesn't have enough space for me.

If you want to get your music legally i have the Zune pass where i pay $15 a month and download as much music as i want. if i stop paying the music expires in a couple of months, so if you buy a cd or two a month this is a better deal.

iPod nano, I love it and I was anti-iPod for a very long time. I only have the 1gb version and it's more than enough for me. I can't think of any stretch of time when I need to have more than 10-11hrs of music with me without my laptop or a time when I'd want to watch a movie on that tiny little screen. iPods are great...just don't use iTunes.

Yeah, my ipod photo crased a few weeks AFTER my warranty expired! Fun for me!

I guess I want something with A LOT of memory, say 60 or 80 GB with does videos, photos & music. An all for one type device.

a question. i usually have only roughly a few GB of songs with me at any one time. do you really need the extra weight of a device that holds 80GB or more?

Well with an ipod video you also have to account for a tv show taking up to half a gig. Not to mention you can use things like the creative devices or a zune to hold pictures, documents.

I sometimes use my camera as a usb drive because i didnt have one on me lol. I use a PDA as a music player, 4gb capacity and it can play mp3 aac and wma.

Yep. I carry ALL my music in once place. My now dead ipod had over 30 gb of music on it along with books & my spanish lessons! :P Not to mention my pix. I do miss it!

the best media player would be one that is made as a card reader (and priced like one too) so you can buy and insert multiple memorycards into the player; and also use it as a thumbdrive or backup device for your digital photos while traveling without needing a computer!

maybe someday :P

The OQO 1,000 dollars. Runs windows XP has a 1Ghz processor and a 30 or 40GB hard drive. Built in keyboard and mouse. Can hook to external monitor and keyboard. Has a card reader.

Basicly everything and anything. lol

Actually, I bought my sister the Zen W. It's pretty spectacular & has a flash card reader. Transfers are pretty fast for my 4gb card. LCD display is spectacular & has 180 view. Dwnside is that it only holds 30 gb.

Well it doesnt have much more then a 64mb graphics card if i remember. But itll run your arcade emulators, possibly up to a Playstation 1 emulator at most.

1,000 dollars isnt crazy at all. I know they announced a new model dunno if it is out yet. But the OQO was out in japan a year before it was here and i probly heard about it 2 years ago.

I'm now using a LG Chocolate Cellular Phone for my media player and phone in one. It uses SD micro chips that normally come with an adapter that allows you can use in any SD card slot. I'm using a 2GB chip I bought from newegg.com for less than $40. Works like the I-pod for music but all in one unit.

My old (1.5 years ago) Motorola V360 I had a 512mb chip in it it played MP3/AAC. Reused the chip in my Samsung A930.

I hear that the ARCHOS products are great. They sure look neat to me. I use the 30GB iPod which I purchased before I had hear of ARCHOS. When it dies I will probably replace it with the ARCHOS 404.

I put full on movies on my Zune (love the 3" display and resolution) they end up being 4G a pop... I also have podcasts and training movies on it...

Now the wife has almost filled her Zune she is on the same subscription as Elvis L... I don't know how someone can listen to that much music.

It'll do photos though. I frankly don't care if it does video or not, watching a movie or a tv show on something that small would suck. My brother has a Zune and I can't see how people actually watch videos on that thing, it hurts my eyes... But to each his/her own I guess.

You are right. I do enjoy having video podcasts though.
