When I go to use the type tool, I'll start typing a word and the whole program just shuts down. It doesn't save anything I'm working on, doesn't give a warning, or anything.
I'm not pressing the button to close (like alt+F4)
Anyone know what's going on??? |

If it does this every time you use the tool, and restarting the whole computer doesn't help the situation, then it's very possible that a file that the type tool relies on has become corrupted. Unless you can identify the file causing the problem (it is likely a .DLL file) you may be faced with reinstalling Photoshop.
I would personally take the path of contacting Adobe support and seeing what they can do to help. |

Same thing happened to me with PS7 a couple years ago. Reinstall solved it.

Is there anyway, besides reinstalling it, to solve the problem? My original copy is 3,000 miles away in some undiscovered corner of my attic.
I can type small font, but then when I increase the sizes it immediately shuts off, or a message comes up which says "Could not use the type tool because of a program error."
It was working fine last night.
Last night I installed a new font from dafont.com. Could that have affected it? |

Could be... Try getting rid of that font and see what happens...

You might try a system restore (if you have it enabled) back to a previous date.

It's a distinct possibility. Open your fonts folder and drag the new font to the desktop, then reboot. If the problem goes away, the font was the culprit.

| I have had a bad font that I downloaded bomb PS for me. It wouldn't even get past the loading screen before it shut itself down. I deleted the font and PS worked fine afterword. |

When you start up CS2 and you see your key make a copy of it. So you know what it is, once you've done that install a copy of CS2_tryout on top of it. Then when it asks you to register just put in your SN again. It should work
