Status: Thank you for submitting your proof file. Your submission is being reviewed by the administrators and is pending further action.
How long does this process take? How does the SC contact you for thier decision? |

It sometimes takes a couple of days, but yes, you will get an email when your image is validated. :)

The one time I had an original requested, it took about three days before my photo had a "This photo has been validated" notation under it.

It usually takes a few hours if it is a simple issue -- the people who have to vote on it are in different places and on many schedules.
If your editing is controversial and involves the subjective judgement of the SC, then it can take longer (days) while the issues are discussed.
Also, not every photo gets a "Validated" note attached, depending on the basis of the validation request. I've suggested a more obvious way of showing that the photo is indeed legal, but so far that proposal has received little support ...

I got my request yesterday morning, submitted my original last night, and it was validated this morning.
Paul, I like your validation indication. For mine, could you just change the text a bit to "This photo is worth a 10. Obviously."

How do you mean? Do they let you one one way or the other in some other way? |

He means if its validated you may or may not get a response. If its disqualified .... YOU'LL KNOW.

No, no, YOU get a response whichever way it goes.
But they don't put "This photo has been validated" on every one. There's some mysterious formula they follow.

I asked for validation for one of my photos and I never got any response...I didn't get DQ'd either...
*edit to add: I guess that means it was validated. (I'm a smart one!)

I think the notation is important due to the fact that some people DO vote lower thinking that the image is illegal. Even though they aren't supposed too. |

The Site Council are all out to get me. I get tons of validation requests, and the SC always take DAYS to validate mine. For the recent Religion challenge I just converted to black & white, yet it took SC DAYS to validate it. They're all out to get me, I tell ya!!!

How do you ask for validation ahead of time? |

Umm, ya'll notice on the General Inquiry section of the Help/contact page, where it says "attatch a file"? That might assist in pre-validation. (pre-validation only gets an opinion from one sc member, and cannot be construed as a real validation)

"Click on your image on the sidebar and then click the "you may submit your original for review" link below your photo."
From the link I just posted ;)

If you need an opinion on a photo ahead of time, the best way to get one is like wavelength said, to submit a ticket via the Contact page and attach resized versions of your original and your entry. When you upload your proof through your already-submitted entry, there's nothing in the system that alerts us to that so unless you send us a ticket, we'll likely not see it.
And, as wavelength also said, pre-validation consists only of the opinions of the first 3-5 SC members to see it and isn't a guarantee. If it's a close call, we'll let you know.
And, we're out to get Skippy. |

Shoot...I just submitted the original for the June free study. I did want to know ahead of time, but this is the wrong way to do it??? |

Nah, it's okay. Just go ahead and submit a ticket to tell us to go check it out. |

Okay - so why do some (SC validated) photos get the "This has been validated" stamp below them during voting and other (SC validated) photos not get it ?
|

|

They usually get the stamp if the editing (or something else) has been questioned enough to make us think it needs it. When the initial DQ request is for something like improper date range, the entry doesn't usually get a note. |

I think validation should be blinded. Like voting. And I think that anything validated should receive a 'validation' message on the photo. Why not. |
