It just dawned on me, what it is that my images lack....a super, crazy dramatic sky. Living where I do, however, I haven't even seen the sky in weeks, so what's a guy to do?

Any thoughts as to why this didn't do slightly better? The Anti-Smoking Lobby, maybe? I by no means expected a Ribbon but maybe a score in the higher 6's. No complaint...mostly curious.

LOL. I think your entry was just fine. I look forward to what you come up with in Candid.

I really liked it and I think most others did as well - 6.5 is pretty darn good score - maybe not up to your expectation but still a really fine score and in the top 10% of all images entered.

I really like the new edit better. Now, if you can just add those freaky overdone eyes and some purple to the sky - you would have a first pager....

You're complaining about a 6.43 score?

"Should I have gone with this edit?"
Not only no, but hell no!

I know you're being silly, and a tad tongue-in-cheek about it, but I do understand what you are getting at. The dramatic skies rule over people and the lives they grace us with to watch, enjoy and learn from. I was a bit surprised to see it finish under 20th place myself. Be proud - it's an awesome shot!

It's your 9th-highest score in 80 entries.

Don't bother trying to pick apart tiny changes in scores that make large differences in placement.

FWIW, I don't like the sky. It loses the gritty, urban feel.

Your entry looks great and deserved a better score. I wish we could replace unwanted/districting background, however it's illegal even in advanced editing.

I'm so torn, the original (which I liked very much) or the smoky sky...

You are right - shoulda gone with the sky - I bet you woulda gotten a 6.44 out of it. lol

Sure. Why not?

I've been deliriously sick with a fever over the last few days and I still had to go to work so I'm trying to rest up now. Might have to pass on Candid unless I go with a Cat shot...bite my tongue.

Seriously doubt I'll top this one in two days of shooting.
