It's been awhile since I've shared my pictures here (except when I enter the challenges). I've been doing setup portraits (especially during my workshops) but there's no denying the fact that my real love is travel portraiture.
Last April, I went to Myanmar along with 5 other photo hobbyist. It was my best trip ever, photographically speaking. I had the time of my life. Everyday brought about new opportunities for photography. Every scene was worth documenting. But most of all, the people were just so amazing. They are goodlooking and very willing to pose. I went back home with over 5,000 pictures.
I would like to share with you some of the most unforgettable faces I've encountered during that trip. If you wanna view more pictures, you can visit my pbase gallery of that trip HERE.

manny these are all amazing, especially "weaver", went straight to my favs. When you shoot travel portraits like this, are you only using available light or flashes? Do you begin talking to the people and then ask them to pose? Thanks for any insight you could give, your work is always amazing. |

I only use available light. No flash....a no-no for me. I don't like the colours if i shoot with flash and it also intimidates your subject.
Yes, I talk to them... sometimes I do sign language/gestures. I ask them to pose sometimes but i still would like to make it look natural. That's where timing counts. You hav eto capture the right moment.
I will lead a group of photographers in my next travel project (Bali in October). I will limit it to only 9 photographers. Anybody interested?

Hey Leslie... saw your India pictures. Man...wish I was there with you.
Anyway, I will email you once we finalize the details.
There will be 2 other leaders. Here's JOSE, my brother (his forte is capturing lifestyle), and the other one is ALOHA, and her forte is "telling stories". Mine, btw, is obviously travel portraits.

Hey there, I'm travelling around the world at the moment, and would love to join you in Bali in October. My wife has lived in Indonesia for a couple of years and speaks fluent Indonesian! Although we're in Thailand at the moment, we're likely to be in Indonesia around that time, and we're pretty flexible. I'm also looking to volunteer in Burma in the next few months, so a really interesting thread. Did you get any hassles from the authorities with your camera gear?
PM me more details if you get a chance,
cheers,
Bob
ps, if anyone wants to see what I've been up to, check out my blog:

Hey Bob! You're here in Bangkok and we've never met?
Anyway... that will be fun having you in Bali. I will email you the details once we finalize it. Maybe around August.
Since you've asked, I went to Burma with a lot of apprehensions. Contrary to all my unfounded fears, my 7 days there was a breeze. No worries about safety and military harassment. Just smile a lot...it can make life a lot easier.
I envy you man. Saw your blog. Really FANTASTIC pictures! You're very very good.:)

I will PM you once we have the complete details. We haven't formally announced it yet but we already have reserved slots so we will likely pick friends and acquaintances for the remaining slots (and I've listed you as an acquaintance). Since it is our "first time" doing thi,s our expenses will most likely be at cost plus a bit of per diem for the leaders. This is gonna be very experimental so be ready for any possibility... of a rain? of unwilling subjects? flat tire? etc....

Manny. I could be interested in Bali. Can you post the details - dates, duration and program. I was very disappointed with my shots when I visited last year. |

To view your photography is one of the greatest luxuries of my life.
I simply ADORE the way you manage to 'reach' people in seemingly short periods of time.
The vast number of people who you have captured assures me that not only are you a photographer of the highest calibre, as a man you also must be very special.
Peace to you - you bring people into my home whom I'm likely never to encounter - and you show me their beauty & spirit - DIVINE!
Much Thanks for Sharing this recent gallery.

Thank you so much Lisa and David for the vote of confidence. After traveling several miles, a simple appreciation is all i needed to eventually convince myself that my "mission" is accomplished. I will not cease from bringing to you more of the beautiful people I've met.
