I was reading the posting about Kelsey Smith a few minutes ago and it also really made me sad and angry that another young life has been senselessly destroyed, not to mention the lives of Kelsey's family.
In this respect, I don't know how many members on DPC, other than UK members have heard of Madeleine McCann. If you haven't, please, please take the time to follow the link below. Madeleine is only 4 years old and on Thursday, May 3rd, little Madeleine was snatched from her parents holiday appartment in Portugal and very sadly, she has still not been found. We can only imagine the agony her parents must be experiencing each and every day, not knowing whether their precious daughter is safe or not. Madeleine could be anywhere in the world, but the more familiar her face becomes to people worldwide, the more chance there is of finding Madeleine and returning her safely to her parents.
So please take a look at Madeleine's website.

Edit : Sorry, the link is not active. Must be doing something wrong, but the url is correct so just cut and paste.

I feel very sad for her and her family but i am a little disturbed by the ammount of money that site says it has raised so far. looks like 1.3 million us dollars. I hope and pray that they find her but i hope as well that the majority of that money goes to a chairity to help find other kids that didn't happen to make the national news. |

Are there specific charities you'd like to make us aware of or are you just complaining? I'm sorry if this sounds harsh; I'm just weary of everything turning into a huge debate. |

if it doesn't exist then make one. If they spend 1.3 million looking for one girl when there are others out there not getting the same vigor then that is a problem. I don't see how it can be a debate. They need to spend a resonable sum of money and do everything in thier power to find her but They should (i am assuming they will) use the chairity they have been givien to help others.
BTW If it were my own daughter i would feel the same way. |

Jorge De Sousa has a link on his Blue Ribbon challenge on that subject.
And he's from Portugal! So, it's reaching more and more people. I sure hope they find this little girl alive and well.

Thank you for fixing my link!
Just a comment, the purpose of my post was not to ask people to donate money. All I want you to do is look at her little face, memorise it and if by some stroke of luck somebody, somewhere recognises Madeleine, then our prayers will be answered! |

Giving it a little bump.
As a subnote, DeSousa probably knows a lot about the case as the fmaily were holidaying in Portugal when she went missing. Still, it touches ANYONE with kids of their own. The day will come when the family have to leave portugal and go back to the UK, minus one member of the family.. awful awful.. |

Is a "boot" what we americans call a trunk (the storage area in the back of a car)? |

Yes, the boot's at the back and the bonnet is at the front covering the engine.
This is indeed a tough case. Portuguese law means the police cannot talk about any evidence while the investigation is in progress. What we're reading about on the news is from 'inside sources' and general rumour. |

Yes it is LoudDog, and the hood is called the "Bonnet".

Yes, I wish for Madeleine's safe return to her parents, and can only imagine the agony her parents are going through (and hate even more to think what Madeleine herself may be enduring). I guess it's great that the parents have done an amazing job of exploiting the media and Internet to reach people and collect money, but other than that, what makes this any more relevant than the hundreds of other abducted children out there?
I'm doing my best not to sound harsh, but they left their children sleeping and unattended in an unlocked ground-floor apartment while they went for dinner and dancing! I realize crime and abductions may not be as prevalent in Europe, but here in the U.S., I would be more sympathetic to the parents whose child was abducted under less "inviting" circumstances.
Also, as morbid as it sounds, the intensive international media coverage could very well be detrimental, in that it could pressure her abductor(s) to "dispose of her" as it becomes harder and harder to avoid being seen. |

Well it's attracting media attention for all the wrong reasons now. The parents are suspects and the file has been handed to a Portuguese judge to see if they have a case against them. (i.e. the Portuguese police are building up forensic evidence to imply the parents were involved in her disappearance) |

I think there is no safe return, the evidence is building against the parents. I have watched this case develop of the past months, and it has struck me how little emotion has been displayed by either parent. As a ex-cop and a writer/people watcher, I tend to watch body language and there are classic display of untruths during interviews. Mrs McCann, went talking to Ann Nightingale for a BBC interview, only cast fleeting glances at Ann when discussing the case. When asked to describe their daughter, they both gave a list of things about what a great kid she was, but there was never a single tear shed!!
I don't want to go on, but there will be a few more twists and turns in this case. I have my opinions and I think they will be borne out over the next few weeks. |

Unfortunetly, this is another Jon Bonet Ramsey case...the investigation has been botched from the beginning and now they are all of a sudden looking at the parents. The parents should be the first ones either included/excluded as suspects. I doubt seriously if they will ever find the truth...which is a very sad end for this little girl. |
