Had a fun visit yesterday from Amy ( Puzzled ) , here from Sweden on a West Coast USA visit. After spending a couple hours at my shop playing with Photoshop (I had to stop her from using the vacuum cleaner and sucking everything out of my brain I know about PS), fixed a small problem on her car and off we headed to Ocean Beach to meet up with her son Ian, that she had not seen for about a year.
Never enough time of course, but we did go out for dinner (yummy Mahi Mahi Fish Tacos) and managed a few pictures between laughs (lots of those).

And more in my GTG pics from the day.

ps. I think she should change her username to riot - darn, already taken.
;)

Two of my car's windows don't work anymore, and another is iffy. I think it's time for me to visit Destination Brad. ;-)

Yeah, but just cuz' you have a cute smile doesn't mean you'll get a discount...

The best way to get a discount at Brad's is to ask a lot of questions about Photoshop... get 'im distracted and then after some time say "oh well, I guess I'll be fine - even though carbon monoxide is pouring into my car, I don't want to take any more of your time." Then, BINGO! Fixed car! Works like a charm.

Seriously:

Thanks, Brad! It was a great pleasure meeting you, seeing the shop (spotlessly clean!), going to Ocean Beach ... the whole day was absolutely wonderful!

And now a part deux to this:

Amy came back down to San Diego, so I hung a "Closed - Gone Fishing" sign on the shop (well a closed sign anyway) and took a day off for a change. Filled my Thermos with some fresh coffee and greeted her at the hotel with fresh coffee in hand, only to forget the Thermos in the hotel room - duh (I did get it back though)

Off to Balboa Park, first through the Japanese Gardens, then off to the center of the Park for a few hours, and believe me, a few hours barely scratches the surface, especially when the Lily Pond is teeming with colors you wouldn't believe, and the Botanical Gardens at the end of the Lily Pond is one that words cannot describe.

A mad dash to Tijuana after Balboa Park for the second stop of the day. Not too many pics in Tijuana work as black & whites - that's a city exploding in colors! With tired feet, a table for two in the shade was in order, along with a Piña Colada to sip on made for probably the best part of the day, as we sat watching the world go by, cameras in hand, and somewhat incognito due to being in the shade.

Time to head back in order to catch the sunset in La Jolla. To save time at the border crossing, I head East a couple miles to use the lesser-traveled border crossing and oops - following a few other cars and talking away, made a wrong turn into the border's carpool lane. That is not a mistake one should make! The penalty can be a $5,000 fine and confiscation of one's vehicle. Crap! Turned out to be my lucky day and was allowed through with a warning - gulp - was figuring out how to explain that one when I finally got home....

Now to make up some time and really put the pedal to the metal in my old Bug, only to sputter, sputter - darn - good time to run out of gas. (gas gauge isn't real accurate below 1/4 tank - hey - it's 33 years old - whatcha' expect?) I keep a 2-gallon gas can in the trunk for just this reason. A quick 2 gallons in the tank and off to la Jolla for a beautiful sunset, followed by a drive to Ocean Beach to meet up with Amy's son Ian, for dinner.

It was a great day - again!
Thanks Amy - come back to San Diego more often will ya?

Brad, thank you for writing this - its always nice to hear the stories of our friends here, and you've done a nice job. You always include fun / useful little tidbits, and that keeps things lively!

I've only ever been in San Diego for a couple hours once, and have always wanted to come back - - you stories make me want to just get on that plane, camera in hand!

Good work, sir - thx for sharing!

For only a couple of hours???
You need a couple of weeks here! Just grab Glenda, hop on a plane and come out to the left coast for at least 10 days. Oh and I promise I won't look down on you cuz' you have a Nikon - honest.

It was one of the best days I've had during my entire visit here in the US. Thanks, Brad!

I'll be posting pictures and participating more in DPC as soon as I get back to Sweden in a week or so.

These GTGs are SOOOO much fun! I highly recommend them to all. I met Gibun in Korea last year and also had a wonderful time. Even not being a super active member of DPC, I was welcomed as a regular family member by both Peter (Gibun) in Korea and Brad in San Diego. I love DPC.

Brad's car is the real thing. It felt so authentic, driving an old orange beetle across the border and getting stopped by federales ... and then running out of gas on the freeway was the funniest thing. What a day!
