R.

Mostly you proved my point. The technicals were more of a concern than the "art".

Would you not assume that they knew they needed the technicals to make thier art?

Personally I don't think the ones I know/knew gave it a second thought. I have never had a conversation where the golden mean came up once. Never. It was always discussions about emotional content, how it made you feel, etc.

That's probably the one thing IMO that separates great artists from all the others. They care about the emotional content not the technical content. I've tried to incorporate that in my way of thinking. I place something in a frame where it means something to me, not where some guide rule or protractor tells me it should be.

Maybe so, but your technicals (focus, lighting, exposure, etc) are good and you are making a conscious decision to compose as you do.

i took leroy as talking about someone who takes a shot that sucks then inverting it and calling it art.

<---Takes a photo, chimps the screen, realizes settings were wrong and focused missed, cringes and curses, looks left then right make sure no one saw my cringing and cursing, call over your nearest friend/shooting buddy and show them your new art piece. :P

Here's an example of when intentionally not playing by the rules works.

ha, thanks leroy ;)

but, it was not that intentionally. I had to work with 2.8 here (bad light), and a shutterspeed of 1/30. Like I said, it was dark, so the viewfinder of the hasselblad was dark too and I could only hope the focus was right.

Now, it looks like the focus is on the window. To be honest, I like it better this way ;) It adds to the atmosphere, I think.

Everything I do is art. Especially the sucky stuff. I'm making a statement about sucking.

That came out sounding different than I meant it.
