..this photo deserved a higher placing, IMHO. However some of the comments about it not being in focus, or is blurry. Folks photos do not all need to be pin sharp and in this instance it would have taken away the impact of the photo. So please, please, please think, look and think again!
And this one - i am begining to wonder if some people who vote on this website have even a basic understanding of the different concepts of photography!!

I agree on "underground train", this is much better than an average shot. Sharp focus would have taken away from this photo.
On "HowFast", I think one commenter hit it spot on, this seems like a photo of a picture, and though I like the concept, I think it lacks depth and tonal range, leaves me flat.

I normally would agree with you- and I normally hate when people saay that as a comment when I'm purposefully not making it tack sharp. But here, I would have liked to see the girl in focus at somepoint- the background might be cool blurry like a portrait too, I think what is being said is that the picture is not purposefully blurred enough to make a differnce that it is not pin sharp. But I still dig the photo and the gratuitous moose knuckle. happy holidays

i rated first 10 and rated second 2... i loved the first one and didn't find anything appealing in the second... whether or not it "Meant to be out of focus" as the remarks said wasn't important, it just didn't "speak" to me at all...

The art is the most important concept behind photography. This is the only thing that are between snapshoters and photographers.
But the problem on anything is in transition. When you use a focus as effect or the lack of it, IE, your feeling is the unique judge enable to tell you if this is good or bad. But as an artist you need to understand that the people can say anything about your work that is not true to your concept. When it happen two things can be taking place:
1 - You though to catch up a meaningful moment or expressed very well, but don´t do it.
2 - The people seeing your work are not ready to undestand it, due to cultural or personal facts.
Art is in essence one other form to express yourself. But everyone had right to miss understand you. This is exactly what happen with, painters, writers, musicians and other artists.

The picture of the girl on the subway is cool and I voted it rather high, but, IMHO, its shortcoming was not so much a lack of pin sharp focus as it was overexposure, half of her face is washed out. The other, HowFast, struck me as intentionally out-of-focus but overdone so much that I voted it rather low. It's way too out-of-focus, and makes me think it was done so to cover up some other shortcoming, or that it was just not a very good photo. |
