Well I just got back from shooting a wedding and what is the error that pops up while I am uploading photos to the computer. "Hard Drive Full"

SHIT. Anyone no of a good deal out there. Right now I have 3 80GB drives. I want to go to at least a 250GB maybe bigger.

Oops sorry I should have specified I want an external. But may still buy that one as well if they have it in IDE I can't use SATA.
Is Seagate a good product?

(a) empty some image files off your present drives onto DVDs. I bet you never view or use even half of those files.

(b) buy a MyBook

Seagate drives are top notch, one of the best you'll find.

Just search on newegg, they usually have the best deals and their site is really easy to explore :o

ps they do have it in IDE but it costs a few bucks more

I have the MyBook World Edition. It's basically a network attached storage device, 2x500GB hard drives for $500, and you can access it from any computer on your network.

You can configure it as one big 1 TB hard drive, or as a 500GB RAID 1.

You could always stop shooting in RAW. :-P

I'm sorry, I'm just poking my finger in your side, messin' with the big bear. :-) Now, why don't you just go honk at someone!! ;-P

BTW, I checked to see what size mine was when I got home from the wedding and it's a 150gb external drive. I have loads of photos on it but they are all mostly jpeg and only taking up 92gb.

Poke~Poke~Poke.... :)

92 GB is just 46 card dumps in jpeg for me lol. Thats about half a year for me.

Good drives

I shoot RAW with very big files and would therefore recommend FW (400 or, better even, 800).

Pricegrabber search

I did it on 500Gb, but you can modify it. Now that we have the D200 and a 4Gb card, I'm starting to think about needing another one too :|

LaCie 500GB external USB 2.0 drive, $120 (free shipping, no tax).

I have eight of these (plus six more of the firewire version), and love them. Strongly recommended.

James - I'll give my 2 cents for what its worth. The only time in my life I've had a hard drive crash and I lost a TON of data was when I accidently maxed the hard drive space. 2ish years ago I got a Seagate external - loaded it up and ignored it. 1 year ago I got a Dell external - put a few images on it and it DIED a month later - images lost. Last month I got another Seagate and the two of them are humming along side by side looking dandy and working great. Whatever you get, get something! :)

I just picked up a SimpleTech 500GB network-accessible storage drive for $160 -- basically you plug it into your router and it becomes available as a network share drive to any/all computers on your home network (just mounts as another drive letter). The price at ClubIT is the best you'll find on this unit or any other 500GB NAS drive, and I read somewhere that this unit uses Seagate drives, but no confirmation of that in the product description at ClubIT.

My hard drive sounds like it has a heart beat. Does anyone know what the hell is wrong with it. I have been able to hear it working for a while now like 2 years but it hasn't failed. I always think some software is running and I want to stop it but nothing is running. It sounds like an electronic heart beat. dadaada......................daaddadad.................dadadada...................dadadada....................addadadda

That is the best representation I can make of it here. I am not running anything when it does this. ?

//eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/1394/USB/EliteAL/

Have two drives from them, and actually picked up a 3rd this week. 500Gb for $200 for a firewire drive (Mac guy here). small, and QUIET. decent cache size. Never had any problems. looks cool. :)

Just like to say thanks to those who recomended the MyBook on this thread - i read it a while back thinking i should probably get one because i liked the fact it came with backup software. Today my computer crashed with a space problem and i instantly went and ordered the 500GB pro from amazon, suddenly scared i would loose everyhting as i dont have any backup - nor any habit of doing so (i have a crap 40gb portable which now has all the critical stuff on it but it isnt enough). Should get here on friday and that is when i am backing up and re-installing windows and leaving my music on there (takes up about 50gb itself) whilst using it to backup my photos.

So yeah - i would urge those on the fence to go out and get something like this - dont fill up your hard drive and wait for the worst to happen, my little scare proved that it can. Thankfully it didnt mess things up too badly... touch wood.
