What happened to Ranch?? Ranch dressing for fries only. Hidden Valley, preferably.

As a 90's fad it has mostly faded away.

Grew up with Miracle Whip. Love it. My boyfriend can't stand it. When I lived in England I liked Salad Cream as well. I think if you like one, you probably like the other. Give me any mayo type product and I'm happy. And by the way, anyone who cant tell the difference between mayo, miracle whip and salad cream is crazy. Salad cream especially since it has a yellowy hue. Miracle Whip is whiter and has little red specks. OK, that was a bit scarey. I know too much about this. :)

Thank goodness, although my wife likes it on cheddar fries.

I grew up on Miracle Whip too... I've never seen little specks, red or otherwise, in Miracle Whip. We have some in the fridge right now in fact and there are no specks in it.

My SO likes it that way too. I usually like them plain but if they need something I go with mayo and a drop of ketchup.

They're there. You have to look very closely. Teeny tiny. Just got my jar out to make sure.

Either my eyes are very bad or I'm getting yanked... I'm seeing nothing.

Edit: I'll be damned. I've never seen them. Maybe we've always gotten old dressing.

Trust me. I wouldn't lie about such an important matter. I'm thinking it must be the paprika....yes..that was me actually reading the ingredients.

mayo please...but only Blue Plate mayo! that's the only brand i like. i'd rather do without if there's no Blue Plate.

in Louisiana, though, we mix mayo, ketchup, a couple of dashes of Lea & Perrins (Worcestershire Sauce), and a couple of dashes of Tabasco sauce (ok, LOTS of dashes of Tabasco sauce!)...it's mainly used as a dipping sauce for boiled shrimp but it's sooo yummy with anything.

They started adding the specks in the 90's.

Good to know. Explains why I don't remember them from childhood. I switched to mayo around that time. However, this jar in the fridge, although quite old, doesn't seem to have any. Maybe they dissolve or fade eventually.

having looked at the ad for Miracle Whip, I can sate that it looks nothing like Salad Cream. Salad Cream doesn't really resemble mayonnaise at all - it is light yellow rather rhan creamy white, has a different texture, and tastes completely different - sharper and with a strong vinegar taste. In fact they are about as different from each other as brown sauce is to tomato ketchup.

Ahh... but not all mayonnaise resembles Brilliant White Emulsion like Hellmans, Some, especially traditional and homemade mayo are actually greeny/yellowy, due to the amount/types of eggs and oil used.

Quite honestly, I find Hellman's a suitable alternative to proper Mayonnaise, and just how they get it that white is a mystery to me... Since the ingredients claims it contains eggs.

When it comes to food... I'm really fussy.
