| I have been in a slump. Anybody else have high hopes for the free study? I would like to get a PB, but every time I think I have something good it goes sub 6 on me. |

Free Studies are probably the worst challenges for trying to get out of a slump. There are just so many images in a Free Study that it's hard to climb above a 6. (that's my story on as to why so many my FS's suck ... and I'm sticking to it!)
I think the regular challenges, if people go out and shoot specifically for them, rather than try to take one of their shots and shoehorn it into the challenge, do a better job of getting people out of the doldrums. But then definitely take more work.
And I'm certainly as guilty as the next guy for shoe-horning my images into a challenge, so I'm suggesting do as I say, not as I do. :-)

I am sitting on some low 5 scores. I finished last week with more low scores.
Do I have high hopes for my Free Study?
NO!

I am in a major slump.
Compare me to the Chi Cubs total historical wins, and you will get an idea how much a slump I am in.
Free study, hell, I don't need a free study to tell my I am sucking on a the back end of a donkeys ass right now.

| Yup. in a slump here too. I think "this is an easy 6+" and I wake up to a 5.5. ehhh... and I do oddly still have high hopes for my free study. I'm just an optimistic idiot I guess. |

Slump. Yep, that's what it is. It's been 17 challenges since I cracked the 7.0 barrier, and I've landed in the 5.X range more times than I really want to count.
LOL, I actually do have (reasonably) high hopes for the May Free Study. We shall see if they are dashed again. |

Sort by challenge themes in your profile and get to the page that shows your free study entries. Which one grabs your attention first? For me it was "Cameron At Bay" which happened to be your highest scoring FS entry. It stands out because of the processing which is one way to grab attention. Another way is to go with an extreme POV or dramatic lighting or simply choosing a more attractive subject. Whatever your pleasure maximize it more when entering a free study. You certainly have the ability so that's not stopping you.

| I finally got gutsy and entered my first free study this month. It's my best thus far (I think!), so it will probably be sub 5 based on the recent challenges!!!! I was hoping for a PB, but maybe I've lost my mind... |

Just remember when you score a 5 in a free study....
It doesn't mean you're just average, it means you're average among some of the best anywhere :D |
