I am finding the Camera Raw 4.0 upgrade in CS3 to be incredible. I am doing most of my PP in Camera Raw now. By the time I get to regular PS, I find there is much less to do. Anyone else using Camera Raw 4?

Also, someone mentioned here that Shadow/Highlight was available now in Adjustment Layers in CS3, but I have not found that to be the case. Still only found under Image | Adjust. Am I missing something?

The capabilities of CR4 and Lightroom are very similar with most differences being in the user interface, and I agree 100%. I do most of what I need to do in LR with only minimal tweaks in Photoshop.

Lightroom is PC only? Not available for Mac?

I couldnt agree more Ken, Im having way to much fun with CR4 and the fact I can open a jpg or tif as a raw file in to it also is awesome :)

I just got CS3 in the mail for my office computer (Thanks, boss). Can't wait to start finding out what you are all talking about! I expect a long, slow learning process as I've previously mostly mucked about with an older version of Paint Shop Pro.

Now if Adobe would make LR and CS3 totally integrated where changes in LR immediately appear in CS3 it would be a winner. I have both full versions of LR and CS3 and tired of LR very quickly and do everything in CS3. I found only advantage of LR is when you want to batch process lots and lots of photos with similar settings. CS3 has everything I need now.

I tried the demo of LR but found it to be quite slow on a few different machines.

I've got the demo of LR. I like it, but it is rather slow. I've got to get CS3, because I love ACR 4.

And concidering you can just go File>Open_As select file type as RAW, select your Jpg and have the same control over that image as if were a RAW file :D I JUST LOVE THAT

Academic Discount

Looks like its only $95 for students compared to $199 for regular.

I like that image! â€Â¦ in this case the edit looks pretty obvious so I'm guessin that's why the image was questioned.

If I didn't want it to be obvious I wouldn't have done it. I don't think it was disqualified becuase the effect was obvious. I think it's not something you are allowed to do under Basic Editing rules. SC would have a better answer to that.

I didn't realise what I was doing when I processed and submitted the image. Even when I was asked for the original, I didn't think about the vignette at all. It was when the image got disqualified that I opened the original and moved the slider again to realise what I had actually done. I agree with SC on the DQ.

My burst of colour entry has been dq'ed for just that, and i didnt even add a vignette- i strengthened and already existing one, something i could have done with curves or levels.

Sucks.

Mine had a vignette too. I moved the slider to make it more obvious. But I couldn't have done the same thing with curves or levels and ended up with the same image under Basic Editing.

Crazy man, crazy. I'm going to throw a whole rant when the challenge is over and post example pics, and make a general ruckus :P

Is it just me, or do raw raw conversions out camera raw have a funny graininess to them? Not colour noise, the software takes care of that wonderfully, but it seems it's terrible at removing luminance noise. There is as much luminance noise when converting raw at iso 200 than the out of camera jpeg at is0 800.
