So... the Free Study doesn't count towards DPL... What's the feeling on getting one's team's advice on Free Study pics? Fair or no? |

Fair as long as they understand they shouldn't vote on it. |

Guess it is fair in as much as you can always ask a family member for their opinion on the shot you are going to enter.
I don't agree with group discussions on challenge entries, with the extra advice and tips given and used, it is no longer an individual entry but a group entry. JMO |

I am definitely going to ask my team to look at my Free Study photos, and they will NOT be voting on them.

Id say dont show to your team, this is an individual contest, and you should be on your own. |

The most dynamic way to learn and grow as a photographer at DPC is to discuss your image with trusted mentors(both photographer and non-photographer alike), analyze their advice and choose to apply or ignore it as you see fit and then discover the consequences of your choices from the score you get in voting.
That has always been the case, either with DPL or not.

Share...this is how you learn, but don't vote...that only brings trouble. |

Will team members be able to vote on them, or is the site coded such that team members cannot vote on any of your entries? In other words, will my teammate entries show up as teammate entries even in challenges not used for DPL? |

I agree with Steve, this is how we grow. I have no problem with giving advice on a team members photo if it gives them a better chance and they learn something new, but definitely would not vote on it.

really good question ... I think that Langdon should code it so we're not able to vote on our team's images ... that would be the best way to ensure everyone plays fair ... |

I'd certainly be willing to give up the right to vote on teammates work... Seems reasonable.
Definately would help to be able to discuss, especially for things like free study - I've got a handful of VERY different pictures, all of which I like; but of course I want to enter the one that will win. Er, score above a 5.5, rather.
On the other hand, I relish the chance to challenge my own eye, and to force myself to make the decisions. So I don't know that I'd avail myself of the opportunity, even if I could... |

There was already a thread on this and the SC says it has never been against the rules to show your entry to anyone. Friend voting is against the rules and alot of people feel its just best not to share it. |

Good to know... I didn't really think it was illegal, so long as people didn't vote on entries they knew before; I was more interested in what folks thought from an ethical point of view.
Answer seems to be (predictably enough) "mixed". |

Our team (Critical Mass) discussed it and agreed that we'd be happy to give out advice on non-DPL challenges if people wanted it. But getting such advice explicitly means none of us will vote on it.
I think getting advice is helpful regardless of the source; if you're not getting advice from somewhere (family, friends, anybody), then I think you should try to find someone whose opinion you trust and start.
Since getting advice from teammates is, to me, the best part of DPL, I'm definitely going to share my entry with my team.
