I voted 100% as I usually do in all challenges. I don't buy this "I don't vote on challenges that I enter" idea.......if we all did that there'd be no one to vote, especially in huge challenges like free studies and best of annual challenges.

totally agree ... people that only expect to enter and get votes make me mad ... you have to give and take from this site ... that means vote and comment along with enter!! |

I'm sorry you disagree but it is my right to vote or not vote in a challenge. I think there is close to 2000 members on this site and I'm pretty sure they don't all sumbit to the same challenge. I'm not saying your wrong for voting in a challenge you submitted so please don't tell me that I am for not.

Just b/c you don't vote in the challenge that you have submitted a photo in does not mean you don't contibute. I try to make a point to vote in the other challenges, time willing,as I defintly don't enter every challenge. Once again, you have your way and I have mine, I don't think either is the wrong way it's what your comfortable with that matters. |

you've cast 980 votes since you registered in 2005 ... you've recieved about twice as many votes in the 9 challenges you've entered ... since you don't regularly participate, this isn't directed at you ... it's directed at the people who have entered dozens and dozens of challenges ... have received a TON of votes and comments ... but have hardly ever voted or made a comment on another users image ... |

Did I say you were wrong? No, I said I didn't agree with it. Am I not allowed to have an opinion as well???????

you are right, you didn't say it was wrong, but you did use the terms "I don't buy it" which in itself seems a bit antogansitic. If you didn't mean it that way then I apologize for taking it the wrong way. |

I made this same point in another thread. It just seems weird that I had only 311 views, considering there were 554 entries, plus (presumably) a bunch of voters out there who *didn't* enter a photo. |

Some of us contribute in ways other than voting. Commenting, for instance. Or, say, helping teach the PS 101 thread. Or writing tutorials (just had one posted, with 3 or 4 more coming).
Or helping people with editing suggestions before the challenge (so we don't vote on those). Or organizing donations to buy someone a camera.
Voting isn't the only way to give back to this amazing community.

I voted, though not 100%. I think I got up to 68%, but I did really want to do 100%. My main computer gave up on me so I didn't have the time.

I voted but I think I only got up to 35 or 40%. I felt kinda guilty voting on these since I am not very (spell that 'at all') adept at post processing and Desaturation, whether selective or not, is beyond my scope of knowledge. Looking at the photos, I could only assume that this one was "easy" to do, or that one was intensely difficult and painstaking... but I was only guessing.
I saw some wonderful photos made better by what I ASSUME is the desaturation. A couple of them I voted very highly on came in like 34th or in the triple digits, so maybe I didn't guess at anything right anyhow.
I do know that for an old film darkroom buff, Photoshop (and it's clones)appears to be a wonderful entity. Maybe by the NEXT time this challenge appears (Selective Desaturation III?) I will know what it is, will have an entry in there...and can actually vote with a knowledgeable mind!

I did vote on all of them - but I'll confess I didn't really spend as much time as I felt necessary to vote as I'd like. Part of that is the high number of entries, honestly for me there were a large number of very similar ideas as well (how many flower shots do you think were in the challenge??), and finally the time to enter all of the challenges as part of DPL.
There really are two issues - 1) - just voting and more importantly b) quality voting - by that I mean really looking at a shot, critiquing it, offering comments, looking at others in the challenge and then finally offering a score. Those that do that - even if they only vote for 30% of the shots probably do more than rapid fire voting on all of them. Just my 2 cents.
Finally I'm curious how others judge their own scoring (not their scores on their picts ) but how well you are able to recognize good photography, comment on it in a meaningful way, and finally offer a score. I regularly review my top 10 vs the group's decision. In some challenges I'm right say with 5 or 6, although I'm also happy to see that I've seen something else and picked some that didn't do well. I like to review those, make sure I offer comments to the photographer and try to learn.
I'll quote someone from up on the list "this is an amazing community" and I'll add with many incredibly talented photographers - it's great to see us support each other.

I was in a very bad mood during the challenge, so I voted on some, but stopped part way just because I was leaving some REALLY crabby comments.. Not to mention commenting on things that appealed to my own interest and not the factual image quality..
In short, I was being a dick, so I stopped voting.. |

I voted about 37% of this challenge. My personal feeling is it was below normal in terms of quality imagery in the ones I scored. The challenge averaged at about the DPC overall average but there has been an increase in average challenge scores given over the last 6 months so who knows what that means.
I'm one of those "rapid fire", instantaneous voters. Do I make mistakes(by my standards)?... occasionally, but not often. Not near often enough to consider changing. Do I review and take time with some images? Obviously, yes.
Why does anyone need to study pictures all that much. If you don't know what is good about an image right away then chances are it isn't very good to start with anyway and not worth much time.
I get the opportunity to later fully critique images I might have spent half a second deciding how to score during voting. When looking at the image again I almost always remember why I scored an image a certain way. More often than not when I give an image an in depth critique it only confirms my instantaneous evaluation. I just take more time identifying why I voted the way I did and writing it all down.

I entered and voted on 100%, and did not vote lower afraid that I was voting for the Outcasts...they need all the help they can get.
I actually ended up giving them a 10, 8, 7, two 6s, and a 5.
I actually thought there were a good number of entries that did not recieve the score I thought they were going to get. Some great stuff in there...then there was the rest, mine included.

i voted the entire desaturated challenge - all 6 million entries - and voted a little lower than my standard average.
I thought a lot of the images were not really high quality - many poorly lit, uninteresting, boring, or cheesy (mine included!!!). I think the Shapes and Username challenges (those are some creative takes!) had far better entries.
