I like the simple design. You have some really good portraits there too.

Maybe you could think about changing the "gallery" wording to "portfolio", like most people have? Probably not a big deal though.

when people meet you or encounter you for the first time, they only know about you what you want them to...

"My name is Dustin Steinbach. I am a up and coming photographer who lives in Victoria B.C. Yes I am only 17 but don't let that fool you. Photography is my passion, and hopefully it will be more than just a passion for me soon. When I graduate high school I will be moving over to Vancouver B.C to pursue my career into becoming a Professional Photographer."

vs

"My name is Dustin Steinbach and I love photography. I'd love the opportunity to work with you."

it all depends on the purpose of your site. do you want people to think you're a compentent & passionate photographer, or a high schooling photographer wannabee? it's up to you to chose the words that describe yourself to the world...

would you say its too much of a stretch to say I am a Professional Photographer?

If that's your main job, and people pay you to do it, why not?

Personally, I'm waiting to call myself a 'professional' until I make 51% of my income for the year through photography... about 900 bucks to go here, but I'll ruin it if I get another regular job to cover expenses for art shows and printing/framing.

This is what I came up with for my about page: //jonbuder.com/about.html

then yes, it would be a stretch to call yourself a professional photographer.

there are some people who'd argue that you're a professional just because you accepted any money for your work, but i completely disagree with that, and think you could get yourself in trouble if somebody hires you to do something you're incapable of doing, but they hire you based on your claiming to be a 'professional'...

there's nothing wrong with simply calling yourself a photographer. keep working at your craft, mastering it, building a portfolio that would stand up with the best of them, and, if you really love it, the money will follow. then you'll have earned the reputation of being a 'professional'.
