Well,,
I've finally gotten my lenses clean.
The only ones that were covered with a coating that was "smeary" were ones I had used in a club one night.
It was smokey and a fog machine was running full tilt.
All I can think is that, that combination created some sort of mixture that was attracted to the lenses and deposited itself there.
Went and got some lense cleaner at the camera shop and half a bottle and numerous sheets of lense paper later they're finally clean.

So the moral is DO use your haze/UV filter in clubs ... |

i would advise using it all the time - for what a lens costs
a single scratch can ruin it...
i've used a UV filter on all lenses since i was 12
don't see any reason not to.
as far as lense paper goes - i think that hardbest part of the process is getting the lens paper fuzz off the lense - and i bought expensive lens paper.

I use some optical cleaning paper that feels rather hard but has no fuzz. It's of course soft enough to never scratch a coated surface. If Of any interest I find out how it's called. |

peca - premium grade optical tissue - is what i've got now
wasn't cheap - seems stiff and riggid - but doesnt scratch
still leaves fuzz...
