I'm going to try and get to DC for this 4th of July. Does anyone know if tripods are allowed that night on the National Mall in order to shoot fireworks? (Not sure if they have restrictions for security reasons)

Also, where would be the best place to set up in order to get either the Capitol Building or Lincoln Monument in with the fireworks?

I went there for the 4th in 1993. We were on the Virginia side of the Potomac River near the Arlington Bridge. From there the fireworks were going up between the Washington and Lincoln Monuments. They were the best foreworks I have ever seen.

Have a great time. I am very jealous.

The fireworks go off near the Washington Monument, the Capital Building is on the other end of the Mall - real hard to get both the fireworks and the Capital in the same image.

You always need to go to the Capital Park Police website for info on permits for tripods and look at the rules - they can get picky - best to find out ahead of time and get a permit anyway - then you can use it when you need it.
