Im finally biting the bullet and buying a flash. I figured I might as well go for the 580 ex while im at it, since it would be easier to get my hands on a 430 temporarily if i need a slave. The question now is whether or not i should buy the first 580ex or get the newer 580exII. I dont really know what the difference is, except that the original is much easier to find used. Anybody have any recommendations or suggestions?

From a build standpoint, the version II is much better built. The irritating battery door is much better as is weather resistant sealing. I'm not sure what the price difference is, but if it was me buying I would get the mk. II (or a Nikon SB-600, but that's another story entirely).

It's weather sealed, but the XT body isn't. I think $500 is way steep for a flash, but maybe that's just me. You could get a 430EX and 3 Sunpak 555's with sync cords for about the price of the 580 II.

Don't forget about those Sigma 50 Super whatever they are's. They cost about $200 a piece and can be slaved to eachother using a flash gun.

I just ordered a Signma off Sigmaforless.com.
