I've pretty much checked everything I can- when I connect the camera to the PC, the camera lens actually extends and is ready to take photos, wheras normally it just beeps and upload to my computer. I tried to get the photos manually using Microsoft PictureIt, but it didn't detect the drive. I've tried putting the USB cable in both USB ports. The place where the USB cable goes into in the camera looks odd- one of the pins looks gold while the rest are black, but it could have always been like that- i'm not sure. The other end of the USB cable looks fine, and both ports work. Any suggestions? Thanks! |

Well, it probably won't help you now, but I would suggest getting a card reader, and not connecting the camera directly to the computer (takes longer, uses your camera's battery). |

I see!
I'm not familiar with card readers- where can I get one? Is it just a device with a USB cable that you put the memory card into? How does this use the cameras battery?
Thanks very much for the suggestion, will be looking into this! |

There's probably a certain mode the camera has to be in for it to be connected to the PC. What does the camera manual say? |

Take your camera, go to a camera store, show them your camera and say that you want to buy a card reader. |

There is no mode that the camera has to be in; ever since i've had it it automatically goes into 'PC' mode when switching it on and plugging it in, but I will have a look at the manual to double check!
Roughly how much do card readers cost? The memory card is over a year old, I hope i can find one compatible!

depends on where you live... if you live near a walmarts or kmarts they are relatively inexpensive if you need one immediately and usually between 10 - 15 usd |

Problem is, i'm in the UK!
I was wondering if they sold these in general PC stores, as there are no specialised camera shops around here |

what media does that camera use? I wouldn't buy a card reader from a camera store you are bound to pay more for it. Get it at a Walmart or Kmart or that type of store.

you shouldnt have no problem, and dont worry about the card being out of date. You will find what you need.
