This is more a question about what white balance settings people use in their studios. I find that if I leave the camera set to auto-white balance (yeah I can be really slack sometimes) the temperature range can vary wildly, anywhere from 3000k to 10900k without changing any settings. With my 30D I can set the white balance to a certain temperature. Is this the best method I should use or should I shoot off a grey card and custom set the white balance to that? I know the Bowens lights I am using run at 5600k.
I'm interested to hear what other people use.

I shoot a grey card at the beginning of each portrait shoot and then use it's color temp to set WB in RAW conversion.

Sounds good. But if you had the option of being able to set the white balance at a temperature in your camera (I don't think the 350D does it)would you use that option do you think or still shoot with the grey card? I wonder which would be the more accurate?

At work I got those overhead flourescent lights (nothing to do with WB) but you know those opaque diffusers that they have in them to cut down the brightness...Well just so happens that they work just peachy...take one of them out when the facilities person isn't looking...
Seriously, I grabbed one those that was being replaced because it was cracked or something, cut it up into nice little disks (just like the expensive ones) and shoot through it to set up my WB. Works perfectly every time.
Edit: Man the first sentence was a CF.

Daylight WB seems to work best for me, if I have to choose one.
