I decided to plunge and sign up to 1 and 1. I am near newbie when it comes to hosting an internet site. Her's my problem:

I wanetd to get started quickly so I used their Website Creator. Did not like it since I could not control galleries properly, so this mornign I downloded Wise FTP and created a simple test gallery using PS7. I managed to upload to my server, but cannot make the original one disappear.

Any help would be great.

make sure that your new file is overwriting the old one. It should be either "index.html" or "index.htm". No other named file will show up.

I think I would need a little more information but the first thing I would check would be to make sure that your default page (that you uploaded via ftp) is named index.html or .htm or whatever file types you are using.

I'd be more than happy to provide you with any help I can give. Let me know a few more specifics... is the link you gave the permenant site? What is the page suppose to look like? What kind of file types are you using? According to what you said... I'm assuming you created the web page entirely in PS7... what did you name the file?

The file is named index.html.

I think I figured it out. The domain points to a specific folder. I had to go and tell it not to look at the one that was created by WebCreator, but rather /index.html. The site says it can take about 3 hrs to make the change. I just lloked at my link, and it says error: file not found. That's better than the crappy page I had before...

I guess I'll have to do some work now...

index.php
index.shtml will show up *most* of the time (although some servers could choke on it without an .htaccess file redirecting
index.asp (on a windows server)

I'm up and running. Just a test gallery, but the important part is it works.
