I take those kind of shots without tossing my camera...I might try it, but I'll have my baseball glove to help.

Not a good idea in my opinion. As careful as one can be, there is a reason they call them 'accidents.' I can see the threads now complaining about how their equipment broke or now does not function normally as a result of a toss. Perhaps a few can afford repairs/replacement without hardship, but I would be willing to bet that is in single digit percent

Although may be fun, produce interesting shots, cannot see it being endorsed, via a challenge, by DPC Admins./SC/general usership. Just my opinion of course.

It does sound like fun, but it's probably not the smartest idea (none of the really fun ideas are smart). I've got a full 3-year warranty (and I've been wanting to upgrade anyway) so I may try it...looks interesting.
But then again, I did play fight club in college and end up with a broken hand...hmmmm...

i want to try a camera drop.. using a bungie, basically make the camera bungie jump....

Saw this article in Pop Photo.

It is an interesting idea, but, I for one would only do it if I had a safety attached to one of my existing cameras. A rope, cable, bungie something to insure that my INVESTMENT does not get caught with a gravitational pull to the earth.

Maybe a cheap, used, p&s. Maybe then.

This is actually potentially some pretty fun stuff. I'd never do it with an expensive camera, but I might try it with something I could afford to lose. Might be fun to try with my little Nikon 995. A smaller camera would also be much easier to reliably catch.
FWIW, it's been quite a while but I know this has been discussed before. No time right now to do a forum search though.

Hmmm, could be interesting in the elements challenge.

This is probably best confined to the US.

It would mean something quite different over here in the UK... :-0

That would do it...

I was desperately grasping at straws to explain it without having this thread locked... :@)

I actually looked it up in Google definitions(via Answers.com) and this particular colloquialism wasn't listed... But Wikitionary does.

why not use the timer and a attach the camera to a some strong rope and just spin it around as fast as you can and right before the shutter goes off let go of the rope but make sure before you start you tie the rope to neck

wow it has been over 10 years since I've been on the east coast and totally forgotten about shag! Gonna be back in NC in September so I'm sure I'll see it everywhere. I remember them doing it on the beach a lot. I'm not good at it myself. :(

As for tossing the camera....maybe if I had my old C3000 but even then my wife would probably kill me lol.

Is that like "tossing the salad"? Yikes! (and I don't mean in the culinary sense)

.

No... I think that's possibly a term that evolved in the US, and something quite different... 'Tossing' just means good old, plain and simple self-pleasuring... But can also be used in a perjoritive sense, I suppose as 'Jerk' would in the U.S. i.e. 'What a tosser'.
