Hello Gurus,
I am planning to take a canon rebel XT body, but have not decided on the first lens to be bought. I dont want to spend much on the first lens . Around 400$ .
I would really appreciate if someone could list/point to some of their favourite lenses. ( I am interseted in nature/landscape photos and more than that in birds/animals).So that puts me in a difficult situation between choosing a single lens with both wide angle and telephoto capacity. ( of course i would like the macro too)
Thanks |

My favorite lens in that price range has to be the Tamron 24-75 f2.8. Its a beautiful piece of glass.

When I got my first SLR (film) I got the 28-135 IS USM lens. It was the only lens I had for a long time. On a DSLR it's not that wide however has a good zoom range. For large animals the long end is pretty decent. For birds it's probably not quite enough.
For macro or closeup it's pretty good since the minimum focusing distance is about 1.6 ft. That's probably at the wide end but it's not much further at the long end. |

if you are only going to get one lens, get the Sigma 18-200. I found it useful beyond imagination as I learned how to shoot with my digital SLR. The range is amazing and the price is excellent - the quality work well also.

i second the 18 to 200 lens! great "cheap" lens that covers all the focal lengths youre gonna need. i use that for my main lens, and i carry my specialty lenses (macro, faste or long tele) in my bag when i need them. |
