Hello,
I̢۪ve had a Canon PowerShot S1 IS for just more than 2 years old and it recently broke.
When looking through the viewfinder or the screen display it shows a black screen with some randomly changing bluish streaks, apparently due to the amount of light coming through the lens, and you can̢۪t see anything remotely close to an image. It can take a shot and save, which can be reviewed in playback mode showing just a picture of the problematic image, exactly when it was taken. At the same time it can play back and show properly pictures that were taken before it broke.
I wonder what could be the problem and if it is possible to fix it myself. I found this link where someone is selling a Circuit Board for my camera on EBay,
//cgi.ebay.com/Canon-Powershot-S1-IS-Digital-Camera-Main-Circuit-Board_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ64352QQitemZ140114716913QQrdZ1
but I'm not sure if replacing the circuit board will fix it and on top of this I'm not sure if this would be easy enough for an ordinary user.

Any advice and ideas are greatly appreciated.

You don't need any parts, just get a big hammer and give it a few whacks.

If you do it right one whack will do the job.

You can probably buy a working S1 or even S2 pretty cheap on ebay.

I have a Kodak DX7630 that did that and I gave it a good whack on the side now it works fine.

The problem is going to be fixed. Regardless of the warranty status my camera is eligible to a free repair due to a recall as stated in this link.

Anyway thanks to all who took the time to read my message and tried to help.
