Has anyone's camera ever locked up & not turned off? I ask because I had a photo shoot this weekend and my Rebel XT locked up and would not turn off or take a picture the display continously displayed "busy" luckly I had my second camera with me but anyway it was working fine until I switched lenses. I was using my Tamron 19-35mm then switched to my little 50mm 1.8 and thats when it locked up after a few shots. I turn it off and it never turned off. So what I did next was turn off my flash, remove the battery, the lens even the CF card then put everything back and it turned on and it was fine. Gave me a bit of a scare but just wierd that never happened to me before.
Anybody experience this before?

Only when shooting tethered with a bad USB controller. |

| IMO I think it has something to do with the memory card or the connection to the memory card. |

It can happen. Your camera is a computer, and computers will sometimes stop responding.
When it happens, just pull the battery.

Yes...take the batteries out. I've had to do that twice or so. |

| I have problems periodically - usually when the camera is hot (summer in florida) or when the battery is losing its charge. |

It happened every so often with my Coolpix. Not much I could do but pop the batteries out to force it to shut down.

That's your own fault for infecting it with Nikon Cooties!

If you waited long enough you most likely would of had an Error99 message show up.
Cleaning lens contacting and pulling out battery for a bit usually works |

This exact thing happened to my 300D Rebel. I put on my 18 to 55mm canon lens and when I took a picture it said busy and the little red processing light just stayed on. However it did shut off with the power button. I couldn't figure out what was wrong cause even after I turned it off and back on it did the same thing. So I switched the lens and the CF card then it worked. Something with the connection somewhere was causing an error.

| I used to get this kind of thing once in a while with my 20D and grip attached on my rotating bracket. It seemed like when I would rotate the camera the contacts in the grip would flex a bit (even fully tightened) and loose contact with the camera causing a lockup. No problem, just quickly open the battery compartment, release the battery and put it back in. But at events, even the couple seconds it took to realize what happened and fix it was too long. When I got my 30D I didn't put the grip on it for that reason. |

Happened with my 300D. The write to memory card LED stayed on far longer than it should have, but eventually went off. After that writes were slower than they should have been, even after changing batteries and reinserting the memory card. Changing to a new CF card brought things back to normal. Switched back to the problematic memory card, and writes were fine until I took a certain number of pictures. I guess the card had a bad cell and couldn't be written (I get a similar, but not nearly as lnog delay on my 5D with this card) Sent it back to Transcend and the card they replaced it with had the same problem.
