Yep, scraped heavy frost off the motorcycle seat on Sat. morning (!). That's really early for those kind of temperatures. We're supposed to warm up above normal through the end of the week though. We will have to watch and wait.

lucky for me I haven't had to get up early enough to see any frost. However I am not sure we have reach that low of a temp here in Watertown. Getting close at night though. Seen my breath the night before last.

As for colors. Other than the two trees I mentioned a couple of weeks ago. I haven't seen anything else changing yellow or oranage. However alot of the greens are getting lighter every day., So the yellows are not too far off.

I am going to let you guys pick a date and time and hopefully I will be able to attend. I have tickets to a couple of packer games and one badger game So I might be busy, but with very good reason.

Good Afternoon Everyone,
So, where are we on a date. As it turns out, we have cancelled our trek up to the UP for the week of October 6...so, I am pretty available for any date at this point. Looking to get out and shoot...!

I am starting to see a bit of change around here now. Not alot but a few trees have gone red and orange. And several more are starting to fade. Should be some decent colors by first or second weekend in Oct.

Lets put this truck into gear and roll.

Oct 7th
Head Count?
Oct 13th
or 14th?

Who, when and where?

First choice: 7th
Second: 14th

Early, early, early. Out by noonish.

I am good for both the 7th or 14th and dito the noonish thing, perhaps even a tad earlier for me.

I'd prefer the 7th...the 14th we celebrating our anniversary...8-yrs!

As of right now the 7th sounds good to me.

Ok lets ink the 7th, meet 5:30-6:00 AM ?

Shall we meet in Horicon. Or should we meet somewhere else like Holy Hill? Then work our way over to Horicon Marsh after the sun comes up?

All my little hummingbird friends have disappeared, Which means some birds are migrating already, I have seen two Egrets here in town this week and the Sandhills are gathering in huge numbers along the riverbanks and I have seen alot of V's flying south. The marsh might be kind of quiet by the 7th.

Colin will be keeping an eye on that for us I am sure.

Lets keep this tread on the front page as much as we can so everyone has a chance to see it.

We have so far

What is everyone wanting to see in the marsh?
The auto tour route and hiking trails are on the north side of the marsh off of Hyw49 to the east of Waupun. Near Horicon there is Dodge County Ledge Park but not much of the marsh can be seen from there unless you have a boat. Check out this link about the marsh so we can decide were to meet.

Also check out this link about birding in the marsh. Lots of good places to go.

I'll be in Chicago on the 7th, sorry guys. I'd love to try for a different date if that somehow gets decided.

Leave it to the guy from Minnesota to bail out to Chicago instead of a Wisconsin Party, lol

Ill keep your name on the list incase we change the date or you have a change in plans.

At this point the 7th is still looking good for me. The 14th is looking worse and worse, LOL.

so are we hoping to shoot fall colors or birdies ? Just wondering what kind of gear to bring along. if avoidable i would rather not lug a bag full of glass if we are going out trail hopping.

i'm not allowed to make any weekend plans until i finish building all of my new storm windows (long story), but my goal in 2008 is to attend more GTGs. will you have me in the spring? ;)

The 7th will work for me for a half day outing. The 14th won't. I have some new/used glass to show off too. We can meet at my house or alternately we could meet in Mayville at this excellent restaraunt, the Back Street Cafe. The birds are gathering up, lot of geese leaving, & herons too. The colors are just barely starting here. We can do the auto tours or hike about, most of the activity takes place around sunrise & sunset. Mayville is having their festival that weekend so there will be a parade there at noon. Also a great farm market up here that has a corn maze, hay ride, haunted house, & produce. I left a message with Blue Heron tours too, about boat ride into the marsh. With Duck season open though, it would have to be a daylight tour. Also there is the Neda Escarpment & the old bat cave as a possibility. Anyway we will have lots to pick from.

I'm game for meeting somewhere early to shoot sunrise, fog on the water, wildlife, etc., then retreating to that restaurant you mention for some good and coffee. Then back out to shoot some more.

I know, I know but it's a family thing for my aunt who lives in IL. Although I'd leave Wisconsin for a Minnesota party in a heartbeat. :)

How about meeting at my house, at 5/5:30am, I'll have coffee for us. Simple directions. From the east, Take hwy 33 into Horicon. At the stoplight go straight, you'll go past John Deere,& over the Rock River. I live on the top of the hill, right hand side, green house with cream trim. From the west when you get to the stoplight turn left, follow the above directions. Brian, do you still have the cell list?
Because it is hunting season I suggest bright colored clothes. Not blaze orange, but definitely not brown. The Federal part of the marsh is a National Wildlife refuge, the southern end is not. We can head up towards Waupun & Brownsville on the west side of the marsh for sunrise, and work our way to Mayville on the south east side. There are a number of trails on the southern end,on DNR land we can explore after breakfast.
From my view atop the IRC building (next to University Hospital) I can see a few trees changing color on Picnic Point, but many are still green. If the temps hold on it will be a good day for color.

Colin's plan sounds great to me. I'm down!

Colors are great, wildlife, trails, hiking, shooting. All good.

Breakfast! Yeeeeah baby!

I'm in as well, it's on my calendar!
