i'm on the road and i need to upload my photos to my laptop. i have the camera connected but it says...found new hardware...and i don't have the disk for the camera. what do i do?

Windows Explorer should show your camera as a removable drive Sher.
See if you can navigate to the camera's "drive"(CFCard), select all, copy/paste them to a folder.

See if you can borrow a card reader somewhere. I have the same camera and I think you need the cable driver for it. Oh, just download the cable driver from Canon website. I stopped using the cable since a card reader downloads much faster and no loss in camera battery.

can you switch between ptp and mass storage mode (sometimes called USB mode) on your camera?
If so switch it OFF PTP mode and on to mass storage mode. |

For some insane reason Canon's SLR cameras don't get recognised as mass storage/USB devices - you need Canon software or (better) a card reader.
I have suffered this before - it is infuriating. Does Canon make the software available anywhere online? NB see ssodell's post

thanks for all the help, guys...sorry i couldn't reply sooner. i never could get it to work even on another laptop. we just bought a new card and continued the shoot. :)
