Sounds interesting. Doubt it will make it to the UK.

Incidentally, there is a large painted Victorian sign on a pub around the corner from my house claiming to have served the world's first ever glass of porter, invented by the Truman brewery a stone's throw away. Porter is a great drink - it combines the best of bitters and stouts.

I have been drinking a fair bit of Theakston's Old Peculiar - very good, very strong, warming dark bitter for the cooler evenings and wheat beers and golden ales for the warmer evenings.

One day, we'll have to go for a good porter. :)

Xingu is a great dark beer. Tastes a bit like Mackeson. Yum!

By the way, if you're looking for something that you don't have in your area, you might try here.

Sort of on-topic. The other weekend, we did a trip to Bruges. On the itinerary was a brewery tour. The tour guide was an absolute hoot. Very witty. One of her best was the line 'We brew some beer here that's 4%....but that's for girls'.

I really enjoy Victory's Storm King Imperial Stout. Probably my favorite right now. Too bad it's seasonal... winter...

MMM, and Double Bag. Though, you really have to be carefull with that stuff, it goes down too easy.

Oh, and Unibroue - Le Fin du Monde, and Ephemere are amazing. And yes, drinking them from brandy snifters does make all the difference. Ephemere is my favorite beer to have as a sweet brew with Chicken and Brie wrapped in filo pastry with a raspberry reduction (this is the standard "dinnerparty" fare at our house when the husband is cooking for a crowd).

Though, I still find it amusing that I pair beer the same way I pair wine... :)

Being Irish-born I think I have Guinness flowing in my veins! It's just about the only beer I can drink.

I find most other lagers and ales generally too...anemic.

Hmmmm...

I like a lot of beers. A few of my favorites: Bell's Oberon, Boulevard Pale Ale, Spaten Optimator, Theakston's Old Peculiar, and, of course Guinness.

My FIL buys a six pack of Boulevard Pale Ale every time he comes into town. He loves a good wine too, we have a cork bulletin board made entirely of corks that they popped ;)

One of my favorite beers of all time is Young's Luxury Double Chocolate Stout.

Available at only the finest liquor outlets.. (and Fogg & Suds).

In fact, I'm going to go out in search of a couple of bottles of this genuine gourmet treat.

Yummy.

Damn you all.

I love good barleywine, hopped-up-the-wazoo IPA, smooth coffee stout and fragrant hefeweizen. Amongst other stuff :) Spazmo mentioned Old Peculiar. Yum. Dang, I really gotta start brewing again, or at least put a mead in the works for next year's drinkin.

Btw, Ying is ok for swillin' quick-like, the B&T is best, but the Pocono Brewery has been putting out some very respectable and complex little numbers like caramel porter and IPA... and a 6 pack is $3.90 here - which beats the price of Ying. Brooklyn Brewery makes some nice hoppy stuff, tho the price keeps going up. Dogfish Head Brewery (Delaware) makes a sublime kitchen sink brew called Raison D'Etre... it's 'spensive but it's the mincemeat of beers.

Hrmph.. apparently Young's has a stock issue right now and nobody can *get* Luxury Double Chocolate Stout.

Blast.

So I settled for Guinness.

Can't ever go wrong with Guinness.

I'll go for a Boddington's over anything else if I'm in a mood for a lighter beer.. but I rarely drink anything lighter than an Amber. Usually, it's McCaffrey's.
