How about Vancouver. I'm 5 minutes away from downtown. Great city, great country (except Toronto). ;-)
Okay, let me offer another explanation for this Toronto thing. I grew up in Montreal and am now in Vancouver and the general opinion (well, that I'm aware of anyway) is that Toronto is not 'people oriented'. The streets of Montreal literally come alive becuase of the number of people on them. Similarly, in Vancouver, its not so much the streets but every park and trail nearby that come alive. The people you see and interact with are all super cool. But, Toronto has a much 'colder' feel to it. People don't interact with each other as much and despite the size of the city, you can really feel alone. Admitidly, I've not ever spent more than a week at a time in Toronto, but my experiences there matched that sentiment.

But since I grow up in Montreal I'm biased,so my opinion really doesn't mean much. You see, if you live in Montreal and are a hockey fan, you have to like the Montreal Canadians. Of course, that means their rivals, the Toronto Maple Leafs are no good and therefor Toronto is no good. Yeah, I realize it doesn't make sense but that's the way it goes.

No still don't have a problem with them, lovely places with lovely people for the most part...only saying that because its unfair to make generalizations isn't it.

Oh Ivory I was joking! It's sort of like a friendly rivalry. I've met wonderful people from all over Canada, including Toronto.

*peeks in*

BC here too.. Alberta born and raised... but all my adulthood has been in BC.

See.. *I* think it's more that the East doesn't know we exist, more than us hating the east.

That's just me though... but seriously people, the Maple Leafs are *not* Canada's team. Ok?

I was joking as well, I wasn't even born in Canada and when I did come here went to British Columbia then here.. so I am not sure what it makes me and can't make up my mind who I don't like!

Unfortunately, it's the dorks that give the reputation to the entire place. It's not just TO that suffers from these stereotypes.

You mean it's not?!!

I've searched the RMR video archive at CBC but couldn't find it, but Rick Mercer did a great bit about why everyone else in Canada hates Toronto, and what Torontonians have to say. Then at the end, he's standing beside David Miller, who says something about Toronto being at the centre of the known universe, completely dead-pan. :) It was quite funny.

This whole thing is not going very far, I'm from western Quebec, not far to Ont. border, but have been in Europe for last 6 yrs. Starting to understand why.
True all Torontonians think they're superior, but all others know it's a lot of BS. Actually we should get on together, except for the f... separatists.
It's 1.00 am here, good night.
