Mmmmmm..... chocolate! I do believe chocolate has medicinal purposes. :-) Thanks for the good wishes, folks, and RobH, I don't think we have ducks, but we do have geese here. So if someone yells "goose!" they probably mean it.

'Tis early early morning here - time to go visit with the bats. And in Urban I'm up to 5.6 (!) with 10 comments!!

Landscapes and team scores are up in the Challenge Results Thread. Congrats to NikonJeb and meyers (that's me!) for top landscape scores, and to bdenny for leading the way scorewise this week.

Wow - lots of new high scores, personal bests, and personal top 5s this week.

Congrats, everyone!

And wow, Team Minus won twice in a row. Not cuz of me. :)

Rob, can you remind me how you calculate team scores?

We take the top 3 scores and average them, but a user can only contribute 1 score per week. If posthumous gets 3 scores of 7+, only the highest one will go toward his team score.

I did the results manually...once. After that, I knew I needed to automate as much as I could. I have a few perl scripts which pick out images from particular challenges, and calculate scores based on the results shown on the front page.

Edit: This is why it's important to let me know about anyone new or any team changes. I need to update my "teams" data file to reflect the changes.

You guys are really something.......

You have helped me hold it together for one of the roughest periods in my life.

My wife's parents, who have been the only real parents I've had for the last 25 years, are gone in the space of the last two weeks.

We're burying her dad later today, and her mom is in advanced stages of Alzheimer's and dementia, exacerbated by her dad having hidden it so well from all of us......we noticed she was slipping, but not to the advanced degree that she has.

Lisa's life has been a living Hell for the past two weeks as she and her brother have been going through their parents things getting everything in order for the funeral and their mom moving into assisted/nursing care.

It's an incredibly horrible thing to just up and lose both parents in the blink of an eye.

My job has been to be the isle of normalcy and support through all this and you guys have been such a safe harbor for me to live, love, and laugh with the passion of photography that has kept me from losing it.

I've been spending a lot of time here at DPC in the past two weeks to escape from the angst and sadness, but it's here at the Beachhouse that I've felt surrounded by family.

You all have helped me to maintain, and be that isle, that rock, that safe harbor for my wife.

I don't know if it would ever have occurred to anyone how important this family of photographers would ever be to someone like me at a time like this, but I am truly thankful that you're here.

I have seen you all at one time or another join together in support of a team member, but this was really something else because of how it worked just by the power of goodness this group has in and of its very nature.

Her mom is in good hands as we were fortunate to find help and her a place, we say goodbye to her dad later today, and life will move on as it does.

You have been strong and consistent support without even realizing it by getting me through this.....I will never be able to express how much you have all done just by being here.

You are the absolute best!

Thank you!

Jeb, so sorry to hear of your trials. What a sad time it is for you and your family. You have my thoughts and condolences, and hopes that there will be a silver lining for all of you. Keep the memories alive and do your best to share the best of what they gave you with others you meet. Hugs!

You do lovely work......it's just that like the rest of us here at DPC, the voters don't have a clue.

That's why we're here!

To appreciate each others' stuff past that three second glimpse!

I love your stuff in the Floral side project.

I think I got comments to all the rest of the Team Suck entries in Urban Landscapes, and picked out an OOBIE.

I got a Favorite from MayaM, whose picture inspired my own attempt at that bridge!

Hi all

First off, Very happy birthday to you Deb! And do be careful of any incoming fireworks..

...Jeb, I am so sorry for your loss in such a short span of time. Hang in there...

...and as for Fifi the Wonder Horse (I was starting to wonder how I'd ever get her to go forward without 'nanas being dangled in front of her) the lightbulb clicked on over her head when I GENTLY used a broken dressage crop to lightly tickle her, just behind my leg, as I said 'Walk on' and applied leg pressure at the same time. Once she understood that leg pressure+'Walk on'= Evil Trainer riding her over to hitching post, jumping off, untacking her, praising her and patting her and stuffing her with fruit, she was more than happy to oblige!

Now I just have to get her to stand still and not step backwards when I get on her!

Other news...have't taken pics or done anything dpc-wise for about a week, because the purchase of my dream house (already tentatively named the House of Snaffles) hinges on the house inspection tomorrow (Thurs) at 1 pm. I can't imagine home inspector finding anything seriously wrong. Hopefully everything will pass muster, then I can do the $$ thing and get my lawyer to settle all the legal stuff...

Ok gotta go now, very tired, getting on Fifi again tomorrow.

Bye for now!

PS: LOL, Working Without a Net is one of this week's challenges - I do that every day!

Good luck on the house and financing Susan.

Okay.....am I supposed to comment on the Rurals for sucking least in that challenge?

And am I supposed to pull out all the stops and really do it up and study each and every entry thoroughly?

I just want to do it right.

Jeb and Susan: you two have neatly captured yet another example of the circle of life. Not within one person's life, granted, but still.

Jeb: I'm sending good thoughts to you and your family. I hope your memories help you through this rough time.

Susan: I hope everything works for you. It's times like yours that help all of us survive times like Jeb's.

As for me, I had a wonderful 4 days in Vermont with my family, followed by a fun 4 days in NYC at a work conference. Good pics abound, coming soon. :)

Oh, and I may have finally cracked my personal top 10 with my D200, after I don't know how many tries. My sacred entry is sitting at 6.55!

You don't have to be Critique Club, just a comment on what each shot did for you, how it could be improved, or what you liked best.

Jeb - sorry to hear about your FIL. I had my fingers crossed for you guys after reading about what went into your Shadows pic. My condolences to you and your family.
